บท 123: First Mission
After resting, the two left the house and went to the mission hall. The moment they entered the building, they instantly saw a lot of papers posted in different sections of a wall.
Xiao Yan then mumbled, "If those papers are the tasks, then there would be many to choose from. I wonder which one should we choose as our first mission. Maybe, we should just hunt some beasts in the Magical stage since we are already strong enough."
A female receptionist saw and recognized them. She then called out to the two so they could go closer to the receptionists' desk.
"Hello Xiao Yan and Mu Yue, the principal told us to accommodate the both of you. Just ask and we will do our best to provide answers."
Xiao Yan was pleased. However, she quickly frowned when she heard the next words of the receptionist.
"The principal also chose a task that you two shall do. He specifically said to me that the moment you two arrives, I should give this task and instantly make you two accept it."
The receptionist handed a paper and Xiao Yan took it. She read the contents and gritted her teeth. Mu Yue saw this and quickly snatched the paper as Xiao Yan might rip it to pieces.
Mu Yue then giggled when she read it, "Father really likes to do this kind of stuff."
Xiao Yan took the paper and slammed it to the desk. "I want to reject this. We are not here to do tasks like cleaning. Please change it to a hunting task."
"Are you sure? As I said earlier, the two of you have already 'accepted' the task. Rejecting it would mean abandoning the mission, making it a failure." The receptionist replied. She then added as she gives each girl a card, "This here will contain your rank. This rank dictates the difficulty of missions a person can accept. It also contains the number of successes and failures. Failing a mission would lower your completion rate. A low rate will decrease our trust and we would not hand any important missions to someone who has it."
"Fine... make sure that it would not happen again. Do it and the principal would not be enough to save your skin." Xiao Yan threatened.
The receptionist gulped as her hand slightly trembled. Every teacher and staff here knows the background of Xiao Yan as the principal revealed it to them. He said that Xiao Yan was restrained by her family, but the receptionist felt that it might not be so.
The two went out of the mission hall. Xiao Yan then grumbled, "Clean the favorite courtyard of the principal. This includes removing the weeds and sweeping the floor. Damn it, I've never done this stuff. It's supposed to be a servant's job!"
"I'm here with you. I have some experience so you can leave most of it to me." Mu Yue offered.
"I don't like this task but that doesn't mean I will not do it. Also, I will not let you do most of it. I have never done this but I can learn. t's just some simple stuff, what could go wrong?" Xiao Yan said as her expression softened.
Mu Yue smiled, "I don't think you need to learn it but I am happy at your response."
The two arrived at the courtyard. It was full of dried leaves, and the weeds have already grown to a height that could reach the waist of an adult human.
"I think he wants to piss me off. He could do that but he should have not let you get involved, Mu Yue." Xiao Yan muttered as she grimaced at the time that will be wasted on cleaning this courtyard.
"Then I will not be involved. Have fun cleaning it, Xiao Yan." Mu Yue said as she went towards one of the seats. She first had to clean it and the surrounding area but it was easily done.
"Uh... Mu Yue? I was joking haha." Cleaning the area with the two of them will take a long time. If Xiao Yan was alone, she will take more than just twice the time.
"And I was too." Mu Yue replied. She then observed the courtyard and suggested, "I will remove the weeds and you will sweep the floor. Is that fine with you?"
"Sure, but isn't yours a harder job?"
"I am fine with it."
"Ok, then I will try to do mine as fast as possible so I could help on yours, Mu Yue."
