When Carter learned Traeger was awake she did her best impression of an anchor and resisted attempts to move her from her mate’s side. It was amazing how being blind made Arleigh so expressive and the healer’s frustration was obvious. “Carter, please.” Traeger said. “Arleigh needs to do her job and you did promise to keep clear.” Traeger gestured to New Jersey who was watching the submarine carefully. Carter looked at her, eyes displaying the clear conflict between her professionalism and her feelings. Traeger nuzzled her. “We still have the bond. You can sense me.” “Yes little one and I thought I never would again.” Carter rasped, leaning into it. Traeger’s heart skipped a beat as it always did whenever she heard that pet name. At last the submarine sighed. “Alright, but if you need me to come back.” “I promise I will let you know.” Traeger assured her. With one last nuzzle, Carter exited the berth.
