บท 1: Chapter 1 he promised

Theos hand slid down the cold iron bars and onto the platform, clutching the cane beside him. Tears slid down his face and quiet sobs escaped his mouth. He didn't know why. He never cries. He can't remember the last time he did, But, this hurt too much. He closed his eyes and continued sobbing.

After a while, the train was back at Netropolis station, before it stopped completely, Theo clutched his cane harder and pushed himself up with a hand on the railing.

Theo then staggered down the steps and onto the stone platform, eager to get away from the station. There were tons of people still inside the carriages, but soon they will fight their way out and complain about what has just happened. Theo knew better than to stay and get trampled over. Getting tipped over the edge and hitting someone with his cane was not on today's agenda. Theo was sure going back to Wandsworth prison couldn't make his day much worse, no matter how much he hated that place, but he'll still rather not risk it.

So, Theo slowly limped towards his apartment. It was a dump, but it gave him a roof to sleep under. The dirty streets of London were overcrowded, despite the fact that many people left in mourning. Loki took all the undead with him to Asgard, saving everybody on the train, but that doesn't change the fact that he lied.

He broke the promise.

He broke Theo heart.

Theo continued to limp in the dirty streets, towards his flat, and all of a sudden, he felt very conscious that it had started raining. It was very light, one you'd notice only after a while, but Theo had got used to being shielded from it. When Loki was around, and they were outside when it rained, he used his magic to protect Theo from the rain.

Theo had loved it.

It was so magical.

Loki, of course, insisted that it was no more than a simple spell, but for someone who can't make spells at all... it was beautiful. Theo didn't know why Loki used to waste so much energy, especially on him. Guess now I'll never know. Theo thought to himself and continued walking. The further Theo went, the more he remembered of their times together.

Every little thing, every area, reminded Theo of Loki.

Despite most of them being happy memories, they Fueled the hate and anger. All of his actions and sketchy talk make sense. All the lies were revealed, Theo said to himself. Emotions and hatred became overwhelming, Theo's head was ringing.

Theo stopped for a while and leaned against a wall, stretching his bad leg. He took a few deep breaths and began walking once more--but He only took a few steps before He stopped again and turned his head.

He ended up standing in front of 3/2 on Finch Street. The SHARP Society office. A little sign hanging off rusty chains, it read B. A. SHARP, ANTIQUITIES. It was a small building compared to the rest, with fewer windows and a narrower entrance gate. Theo opened the door and walked through it; the bell hung over the door rang. The place was deserted. Dust and spider webs inhabited empty shelves and glass crates, while mold inhabited the counter on which the water flowed from the leaking pipe above.

Theo slowly limped around the room and towards the back, taking in his surroundings once more. After being here so frequently, Theo had begun to ignore all the imperfections and things that made this place special. Theo pulled back a musty velvet curtain to reveal the "office". The mismatched books piled against the wall all the way to the ceiling.A heavy round table squished itself into the middle of the tiny room, almost collapsing by the number of papers and crates stacked on top of it.

Theo limped around the table, past a small stove and Mrs. Sharp's cupboard of vile spirits, around many of his failed inventions and tarnished gold items. He stopped in front of a little work station, pushed into a corner. Wires and gears glittered at its top. It was a temperamental machine He had made, it was supposed to shoot darts tipped in a sedative.

But of course, the machine did not work.

One Theo had abandoned it long ago, but He still remembers how supportive Mrs. S had been when He was building it. She was a dear friend, kind of like a mother to him; always supportive of everything He had made--whether it had worked it not.

Theo slid his hand down a metal gear and along its cold, dusty surface. The memory of her pained him. He knew it wasn't Loki that killed her, but part of him was still mad at him.Theo brought his hand back and gripped his cane, his knuckles pale. Anger was all He felt now. Anger and pain.

Nothing more, nothing less.

Theo roared and brought his cane over my head, rapidly bringing it down and smashing it in his invention. The adrenaline filled his body as he continued to smash the machine, sending pieces of metal and screws into the air.Theo turned around and pushed everything off the table, scattering documents all over the ground, and he continued to break the table until it broke.Theo went on smashing the surrounding furniture, breaking the cabinets, the shelves, and other bits of his engineering work until He was surrounded by the scraps.

But this was not enough to ease the pain.

When a meeting at a living dead crime scene would not go according to plan--thanks to the police--Mrs S's solution to deal with her frustrations was to get well and truly drunk. Theo had never done it, especially because her alcohol was so vile-strong, Theo had not been able to take more than a sip without feeling sick.Theo didn't know what else could help with the way he was feeling.Eventually, Theo would run out of furniture and machines to smash and would probably end up doing something extremely dumb, dumber than getting drunk.

Theo staggered towards Mrs. S's alcohol cupboard--which now had a broken door and side.He lifted a bottle of gin and took the top off. Quickly, Theo took a deep breath and drank some liquid. Once again, Theo had to press a fist to his chest and hold his lips together with cheeks puffed, trying not to sputter it everywhere. It was ghastly, but He took another sip. And then another. And another. Theo was not used to taking such strong liquor-or any strong liquor in that case-~and he ended up drunk only after a few big sips. But to Theo's dismay, the hatred and grief did not go away, it got even stronger.

Theo clutched the bottle and threw it against the wall opposite, the glass shattering into a million pieces, and the gin staining the wall with its smell.

Theo's vision suddenly got blurry, and He was seeing double. The tears were not helping. Theo took a step forth, but because He could not see properly, He misplaced his cane onto a scrap of One of the machines and leaned on his bad leg for too long-getting it to hurt like hell. Theo went to take another step, but this time He slipped on another scrap, falling backwards and hitting his head. I am never drinking again, Theo thought to himself as he blacked out.
