After looking around at all the dead bodies I asked...
"What happened?" I wondered, why was she hunted.
The elven girl's face was twisted in fear as if she couldn't speak. She shook her head as if she was afraid for her life.
"Speak..." I said with a gentle voice and held my hand out to her.
She trembled when she saw my hands, and then took it with her own small hand.
"It's because I am an elf..." She answered with a trembling voice. "The kingdom is trying to kill all the elves."
"What?!" I gasped, and then put on a cold expression. Realization hit me. "I see... They fear the summoners."
She began crying and I grabbed her arm.
"Look at me..." I told her, and she turned her eyes up to mine.
"You summoned me. I need you as much as you need me." I tried to reassure her.
She wiped her tears away and nodded. "Thank you... but... it won't be long now... The elves will die off."
My face grew grim and I let go of her arm.
"How long has it been since heroes killed the demon king?"
She looked around before whispering.
"A year..."
It has only been a year since we killed the demon king. After spending over a thousand years in the library, only a year passed here.
"Good..." I said in a cold tone. This meant, those bastards were alive and I can crush them. My feelings confused me.
I felt like kicking the wall or screaming, but instead, I clenched my fists. I knew this feeling well, anger that had no outlet. I always wanted to use violence, act on impulse, and do whatever came to mind.
But there was nothing else I could do right now, so I just have to make my summoner strong enough to survive on her own. I looked at her, then I threw my gaze at the forbidden library's ring. There was some sort of glow on it which made me flinch.
"What the..." I muttered and took it off. It was warm. I gazed at the ring and in a few moments I noticed that there formed a magic circle that forbade me from entering the library. This made me yell out. "WHAT?!"
"W-What's wrong?" an elven girl asked me. Her face was filled with confusion, but her body shivered.
I rubbed my head, confused about what to do. I couldn't go inside the library. Not for another half a year.
I thought hard and then I realized something. "Hey, do you have a name?"
She tilted her head to the side and her eyes widened. "Y-Yes..."
"What's your name?"
"My name is... Christine..." she replied timidly.
I smiled and gave a nod. "That's a pretty name. Okay then, Christine, come here." I patted the ground next to me and she sat down. "Listen up. I am going to level you up."
"What?" she asked, still puzzled.
Of course, I understood the reason for her confusion. Summoners were the only class that had no means to level up or get stronger by using a system of this world. Instead, their summons would get stronger.
"Do you trust me?" I asked her with a smile on my face.
However, she awkwardly shook her head.
"I don't even know you..." Christine said and looked away.
"You're right. I don't know you either. But I want to help you." I stared straight into her eyes and she gulped. With a smirk on my face, I walked closer to her. "I need you to become strong."
I slowly moved my hand and touched her face. When I touched her cheek, she blushed. Her hands reached up and covered my fingers with her palms.
"W-What are you doing?" She exclaimed in surprise.
I gently stroked her cheek and smiled. "I'm going to take care of you."
"Huh?!"
I pulled her face close and said. "You're my only way to stay in this world, which is why you need to be strong enough to survive in case someone tried to assassinate you."
"Assassinate?!" she yelped.
I shook my head and pressed my lips together. "Sorry, I don't mean to scare you... But..."
I heard her soft gasp and her eyes went wide.
I poked her forehead and grinned. "Don't worry. As long as you listen to me, you'll be as powerful as the heroes who fought the demon king."
Her eyes narrowed and she blinked a few times. "Are you telling the truth?"
"Yeah." I nodded.
Christine's eyes squinted and she stared at me. "Is this even possible? I've been level one my entire life..."
I smirked and nodded my head. "It's possible." However, if I can't level her up the regular way, I will simply make her cultivate her body. If I do that, she will become stronger than anyone in the kingdom.
"Don't you want to be strong on your own?" I tilted my head.
Her face reddened and she shook her head. "I don't want to fight."
"I understand," I said, and grabbed her hand. "But we must prepare ourselves for the worst."
After a long thought, Christine understood my point of view. She swallowed and nodded. "Okay... But what should we do now?" Christine asked while looking around.
I scratched my head. "I guess we can try and leave the forest. I want to find someplace to live outside of the capital."
She nodded, but her face showed her fear. "Are you sure? Kingdom is hunting me... You'll be in danger!" she exclaimed.
"Haha!~" Christine's words made me laugh. I don't think there was a safer place than beside me. "You don't need to worry about me."
"Why?" She looked at me with doubt.
"Because I am strong. Instead of worrying about me... Worry about yourself." I said and pointed at her. "You must become strong!"
"But I'm afraid..." She shook her head and closed her eyes. "I'm so scared..."
I sighed. "Then I guess I'll just have to carry you." I grabbed her shoulders and picked her up.
"What are you doing?" She asked me and her eyes were wide.
"Taking you outside this damn forest..." I said with a wide smile on my face.
The moment I picked her up, I jumped far into the air. We flew through the sky and I could see that Christine was about to get sick. She clung tightly to me, her eyes opened wide.
"Hey! Stop it! I'm gonna fall!" she yelled.
"You won't fall!" I said and landed in a forest clearing.
She fell on her bottom and looked up at me. "What the hell!? I thought I was going to die!"
