บท 10: . Chapter: Cards encounter (1)

The holidays have arrived, Snow was heavy and nonstop, a never ending piece of heaven falling down.

Limousine rides have returned to haunt Kyrith and support her boredom, head against the cold window watching the snow tremble and glide. It was amazing how fast the snow melted with the contact of pavement, the amount of snow in the city always stayed minimal.

The cold window hurt Kyrith's head, the same side where she had been shot. The cold feeling of the window soothed the area but brought back unforgettable memories. The picture of the same sleek black gun shone bright, Kyrith shivered while the chills ran down her skin and spine. Every little thought of a gun terrified Kyrith, who knew a moment that only lasted a couple of seconds could last a life time.

Having that memory erased would be thanking, living without that mental scar would be deeply appreciated.

Apply more pressure to the window with her head, numbing the imagery pain, and focusing on her family's arrival.

The limousine pulled over to a fancy casino and restaurant with the name ‚golden luck' a family business owned by Kyrith's father. Kyrith's father was taking his family to eat at his restaurant and maybe a little gambling, Kyrith didn't gamble, always thinking it's a waste of time and money, a scam of some sort. A scam the greedy always fell for.

Kyrith always stood to the side, watching people loss fortunes to the games and cards, it was funny tho, seeing them never give up but lose in the end. Humanity disappointed Kyrith quite a lot with its stupidity, even Emily lost five-hundred dollars once and it was hilarious, in fact that time is today. Kyrith remembered that time where Emily lost all her money, it would be amazing to watch it happen again today, her anger fumeing up at the poor man in charge be blamed for rigging the game.

Kyrith brought a book with her this time, last time she had a boring time, remembering well how she sat at the table and observed human behaviour. The book was about the use of tarot cards, she even brought her tarot cards in her handbag for use.

The limousine had managed to fulfill a stop at the entrance, the driver helped Kyrith out of the car, Kyrith patiently waited for the rest of her family, then they were escorted to the main entrance. Kyrith and Emily walked in front with there parents not far behind, no bodyguard was needed since there were security around every corner.

Kyrith didn't come often to her fathers casino, remembering the minor differences from before and now, people wore expensive outfits, only the rich could afford to be in here. The casino was a casino on one half and a bar and restaurant on the other half, your have to be twenty-one and older to enter the casino. Kyrith's father owned the place so she and Emily could go where ever their heart desired and their feet could touched the floor.

Being led to a table to eat, Kyrith admired the modern but mystical surroundings of the restaurant, the color gold was spotted easily along with plants and other minor decorations. Kyrith's father does have good taste in designing and money.

Holding the menu in her hand, Kyrith examined her favourite options, the crab or lobster? The lobsters came with fried shrimps so lobster it is for Kyrith. She placed her order and added a lemonade to it, the waiter came to grab there orders and disappeared into the wiry crowd of people.

Kyrith had noticed the whole time her family hasn't spoken a word since they got into the limousine. Kyrith sighed, a family that didn't feel like a family, they were all strangers to each other. Kyrith thought about reading her book on tarot cards but her father and mother will only tell her to put it away, confused with the sight of their daughter becoming a fortune teller.

Emily couldn't stand the wait, she was very impatient and pegged to go to the casino, she promised she wouldn't gamble now but a little later after dinner. Their father agreed and Emily vanished, like salt in water she disintegrated into the crowd.

Starring at the pot of gold and flowers in the center of the table, Kyrith realized how much she hated going places with her family. Amy would be better, Kyrith can actually talk with Amy, even Violet would be nice, Violet would listen to whatever Kyrith had to say. All Kyrith's previous life she never noticed, was blinded by innocence, how truly alone she was, always locking herself up in the library and reading. It was amazing how Kyrith's sanity hasn't snapped back then from the weight of loneliness, she should've gone mad.

The waiter came in a nick of time with a tray full of orders, carefully placing each plate down, Kyrith's father asked Kyrith to fetch her sister. Kyrith couldn't decline and forced her body to move with elegance.

Stumbling amongst the the crowd, Kyrith moved along in the form of a snake, weaving through the people without making the slightest contact.

The casino should have been noisy like others, but her fathers was always managed in great hands, if anyone did put up a fight other then Emily, they would get kicked out.

Emily was watching a game like said, chattering or casual flirting among two men in the middle of a game. The two men laughed with cockiness and Emily had the smile of a snake, the whole scene disgusted Kyrith, how on earth could Emily carelessly flirt with two random strangers? Kyrith did not know.

Kyrith approached them with caution, in hope of nothing said to her, Kyrith put on a stale look on her face, a bore look of no emotion.

„Excuse me Emily, our orders have arrived. I have been sent to retrieve you, come along now"

Neither of them seemed pleased with Kyrith's presence, the two men shifted their focus to Kyrith with smug looks, Kyrith gave them a glare to back off which was token. The two men looked down at their game again, hint of fear was spotted in their behaviour.

Emily didn't say a word and walked past Kyrith to the direction of their table, Kyrith was aware Emily didn't like her attention stolen and thrown away.

Kyrith resumed her journey back, proud of her inner boldness, Kyrith could be scary, like a cinnamon role that could kill you. Kyrith never showed her aggressive side, especially in front of her family, her family would be disappointed of her rude behaviour.

The lobster practically melted in Kyrith's mouth like butter, the sweet and salty taste of the shrimp played with her taste buds, the whole meal was delightful and deeply appreciated. Kyrith finished her dinner in the snap of a finger, feeling empty still, called the waiter for dessert. The icecream-sunday was a popular choice, the waiter took her order and reported back to the kitchen.

Kyrith understood why Emily wanted to leave the table, the awkwardness of the silence was painful to bare, she wanted to run away from it, escape its brace.

Luckily the icecream-sunday didn't take long to arrive, the icecream looked like snow, so white and clean. As Kyrith gobbled up her icecream with two brain freezes, her mother and father said they would go for a stroll around the area then to the casino to where Emily can be found. Kyrith nodded her head, being left alone was better then the company of strangers.

Pushing the bowl to the side, Kyrith pulled out her tarot cards, lying them out on the table the way it showed in the book. Kyrith placed her hand above the wide open deck before her, feeling a sensation to which her hand was drawn too.

Kyrith didn't know if this would work, it was worth a shot, test her unknown skills.

Asking for her near future, Kyrith placed her hand over top of a card, the card she felt was the one to pick. Picking it up and flipping it over, it was the same card Kyrith gotten last time, ,you will soon encounter someone you will grow with"

The card with the picture of a maiden and a shadow behind her, the exact same card Kyrith was drawn too.

Confusion was heavy, it was unlikely to receive the same card, the first time was an accident but now, Kyrith read the instructions and followed the steps. It was no coincidence anymore.

„Why god did you have to make my life so confusing!" Kyrith chuckled, it was amusing to think of her life now. To think of what it had become now.

Kyrith tried the cards again and again, mixing them up and with her eyes closed, still getting the same card. It would be interesting to tell others futures, see what life has in store for others.

Yes Kyrith gotten the same card, but how could she be so sure it is true? Kyrith could've just been drawn to that one card for a strange reason, it doesn't mean it could be true. Futures can change, it only shows the most likely ones, the cards can only prove they're worth one way.
