บท 2: Snakes In The Grass
When Ryan leaves his class, he gets a little lost on his way to the cafeteria. He then goes up to the janitor to ask for directions.
"Hi, I'm new here and I was wondering if you could point me to the cafeteria?" Ryan asks
"Downstairs, keep going straight." The janitor says as he mops the floor.
"Alright, thanks." Ryan starts to walk towards the stairs.
"I saw you talking to a Cobra's girl earlier." The janitor says, stopping him.
"I've seen what those guys can do. You don't want to get involved with them."
"I'll keep that in mind."
When Ryan walks into the cafeteria, Ethan King and the rest of Cobra Kai stare at him. Confused by this, Ryan first looks around to make sure that they are looking at him then sarcastically waves and walk over to sit with Zack.
"Well it's your first day and you're already the talk of the school." Zack jokingly says.
"What are you talking about?"
"Oh don't play dumb, my sneaky friend. You and Emily Mills earlier, huh? Ringing any bells?"
"Oh, that's why the yellow jackets are giving me the death stare."
"So it is true. Pay up, bro." Zack says to a kid with glasses.
"No, No, No man. Look, Emily was in the hallway crying, I was there for moral support only, that's it, nothing's going on."
"Nothing?" Zack asks him.
Ryan is then distracted by Emily who smiles at him while walking by.
"Yeah...nothing at all, excuse me."
Ryan gets up and tries to catch up with Emily, but Ethan quickly gets in his way.
"New guy. How's it going?" Ethan asks him as Emily sees this and rolls her eyes.
"Uh, it's good so far you know, got lost a few times but I think I got the hang of it now. Mind if I ju-"
"You know since you are new, let me enlighten you on something. Emily Mills, is off limits."
"Really? Cause I could have sworn I heard you two broke up. Now if I could ju-"
"We're just working through some stuff in our relationship right now, and I don't want anything to jeopardize that. Especially some new kid who doesn't know how things work around here."
Ryan sighs out of frustration.
"Look E, may I call you E?"
"No."
"Ok E listen, I know about the rumors, and I know you're upset by them, but you got it all wrong. Look I saw the girl crying and I reacted, no big deal. That being said, I am going over there, but just to check on her."
As Ryan tries to walk pass Ethan, the young Cobra grabs his arm, stopping him.
"Let go of my arm, please." Ryan tells him. Ethan doesn't answer and just stares at him.
"I said, let...go...please." Ryan says again, getting a little frustrated.
"Make...me." Ethan replies as the two stare down each other and everyone watches on in anticipation.
Zack quickly gets up from his seat, trying to stop this from escalating any further, he trips and wastes his food on Ethan. He tries to apologize, but Ethan is too angry to listen and kicks Zack in the chest and to the ground, shocking Ryan.
"Damn nerd, your dead!" Ethan yells as he goes for a punch. Ryan then pushes him back, stopping him from attacking his friend. The two then get nose to nose, in an intense stare down. The rest of the Cobra Kai members get up from their seats and and get behind Ethan, staring daggers through Ryan.
"You come at him, you come at me." Ryan says, with no fear.
All the students and the janitor from earlier look on as Ryan helps Zack to his feet and walk out of the cafeteria.
Derek Long, the second best student in Cobra Kai walks up to Ethan.
"This isn't over. Is it?" He asks him
"Hell no." an angry Ethan replies.
