บท 6: 6. At the ball room
.....she placed her hand on his while standing up. Damien walked her to some other family members and friends for an introduction. Suddenly, the sound of fork clinking against a glass, was heard and this resulted to a decorum. Everyone turned towards where the sound came from, to see the person making the clinking sound. He was standing by the side of a lengthy table.
He said warmly "Good evening everyone, You are all welcome to this year, Family dinner party. I am thrilled to see every one of your beautiful and handsome faces, here, once again". "As the son-in-law, I'm so glad to be here, it's actually a sweet thing to be here with the whole family. We'll have our dinner soon, but before that, I'd like for everyone to move to the ball room, ensuring that we have a partner to dance with, what's merry without a dance?, enjoy yourself loved ones", he said heartily.
Everyone was already making moves to find a partner. Damien held Julie by his side as they walked to the ball room. While they were walking, Julie thought to herself "Wow!!!, there's also a ballroom?!!". The music could be heard as they approached the ball room.
Damien held her by the waist and she placed her hands around his shoulder as they danced to the slow rhythm of the music. Damien looked into her eyes while they danced. Julie couldn't stand it, she felt he had stared her down, so she just looked away.
Damien asked her straight, "why take your eyes off mine??". "No reason", she replied briskly with no affection attached. "I appreciate what you did back there, but one thing I can't stand, is you talking to Taylor, I don't want to ever see you having a conversation with him, he is no good", he said to her a bit harsh. She nodded in agreement.
Julie thought to herself, "I can stand been held on the waist but staring that long, I can't". He held her chin and drew her face close to his.
Diane saw this from afar and left the ball room, angrily. Damien, who was aware of her angry departure, gave out a short laughter. The couple dancing by their side, found this weird, so did Julie. He ignored them and said silently to Julie, "Some people just hate seeing us together and I so much like it". Julie just ignored, but she understood what he meant. The tempo had become faster and it made everyone in the hall become merrier.
Not quite long, the ball was over and everyone went to the long table which had been set for the family to dine. Different names had been placed on the table to signify who would have to sit there.
Some members were already sitting. Julie had gotten there before Damien because he had gone to attend to a phone call.
Julie noticed that the tables had the names of people who were to sit there. She wasn't expecting her name to be found there but was able to find Damien's. She wasn't surprise that on top of all, Diane was to sit next to him.
Diane came towards her direction, and asked her "Hey, Judy right??". Julie wasn't moved by, knowing fully well Diane wrongly pronounced her name on purpose, she just replied sternly "Julie". "whatever, you should know that you wouldn't be able to find your name, I'm sorry to say but It's only for members of the family not a public conference", Diane said while wearing an evil smile.
Julie came closer to Diane and whispered to her ears while simpering "So how are you related ??"
