บท 1: Chapter 1: Father and Son

[Note: No romance or love interests in this story.]

December 12th, 2006. 1:00 AM.

Night.

Thick clouds loomed like ink, obscuring most of the moonlight.

At the luxurious Zen'in family mansion, a ten-year-old boy walked silently down the hallway. Draped in a plain black robe, his slightly open collar revealed a glimpse of his bare chest, crisscrossed with dense scars.

With short, messy black hair, his young face still held traces of innocence, but one could already see the makings of a future heartthrob.

His deep, calm black eyes, along with the crimson stains on half of his robe, made an eerie, unsettling sight.

The boy approached a wooden door, carefully sliding it open, just enough to slip inside. His steps were light as he made his way across the tatami mats, and he gently closed the door behind him.

He coldly eyed the man sleeping on the tatami before him. Slowly, the boy formed a hand seal.

"Shikigami: Divine Dog, Totality."

As the boy's cold voice faded, a dog-like shikigami shot out from his shadow, baring its sharp teeth as it lunged toward the target, sinking its fangs into the man's throat.

"Ugh...!"

The sudden, excruciating pain jolted the man awake. His face contorted in agony.

He tried to call for help, but only blood gushed from his throat—his vocal cords already torn.

Sensing its target was conscious, the Divine Dog shook its head, biting down harder.

The man's neck was a mess of shredded flesh and broken blood vessels. Blood sprayed across the floor, the window frame, and the boy's black robe, staining everything crimson.

The man had believed, this zenin mansion, his home, to be the safest place in the world. Yet here he was, about to die.

As life slipped away, his panicked gaze landed on the shikigami gnawing at him, and then on the boy standing coldly nearby.

When he recognized the boy, his fear and panic morphed into shock.

'Zen'in Mirai?'

'The family's disgrace, the one considered worthless?'

When had this so-called failure mastered the Ten Shadows Technique?

And why was he assassinating him in the dead of night?

These thoughts overwhelmed even the fear of death. But before he could think further, darkness swallowed his vision.

"The ninth one."

Staring down at the man in a pool of blood, the boy's lips curled into a satisfied smile, though he quickly suppressed it.

"Let's go. The next one awaits."

Upon hearing the boy's command, the Divine Dog released its grip and slipped back into his shadow, waiting.

As cursed energy spread beneath his feet, the boy walked down the hallway, his steps silent.

Repeating the same ritual as before, Zen'in Mirai moved like a miniature grim reaper, snuffing out the lives of his family members in one quiet room after another.

"Divine Dog."

"Toad."

"Serpent."

In the shadows bloomed blood-red roses, dangerous yet captivating.

Each life he claimed made the corners of the boy's mouth twitch upward, just a little more each time.

Half an hour later...

Bathed in faint moonlight, the boy's once-plain black robe was now soaked in red. His pale face, too, was speckled with crimson.

Wiping the warm blood from his face with his sleeve, he turned his icy gaze toward the distant courtyard, murmuring softly to himself, "Twenty-seven. I guess it's time to pay Father a visit."

With that, he began walking toward his father's room.

As memories of the past decade resurfaced, the killing intent in his eyes became almost tangible.

Zen'in Mirai, a reincarnator, had once been an ordinary young man lying in his bed on Earth, eagerly following the latest chapters of Jujutsu Kaisen.

He had witnessed the birth of 2.5 Gojo Satoru...

In a fit of rage, he had smashed his keyboard, cursing the author. His frustration and adrenaline led him to punch his computer so hard that he was electrocuted... and died.

Now, he had been reborn in the world of Jujutsu Kaisen.

The good news? He was reborn into a prestigious family, the renowned Zen'in clan of the jujutsu world.

The bad news? He was born with abysmally low cursed energy, a severe handicap in this world.

Even while still in the womb, his father, Fan Zen'in, who was vying for the position of family head, had named him "Mirai" (meaning "future"). His father's hopes were high—he dreamed of his son being the bright future of the Zen'in family, perhaps even another genius like Gojo Satoru, someone who would cement his claim to the clan's leadership.

But when Mirai was born...

His father's disappointment was as if he had fallen from heaven to hell.

Just like the tragedy of Zen'in Maki in the original manga, Mirai's misfortune had arrived early.

In this world, jujutsu techniques are imprinted into sorcerers at birth, known as "innate techniques."

These innate techniques are hereditary, and as such, talent far outweighs hard work in determining one's worth as a jujutsu sorcerer. No one else can truly replicate these techniques, as they are etched into the sorcerer's mind at the moment of birth.

From the ages of four to six, most sorcerers naturally awaken and begin to master their family's inherited techniques. But due to his low cursed energy, Mirai struggled to awaken any of the powerful techniques passed down through the Zen'in family.

It was much like Zen'in Mai in the manga, whose awakened "Construction Technique" was not even a Zen'in clan technique.

"Those who are not of the Zen'in clan are not sorcerers. And those who are not sorcerers are not human."

This was the Zen'in family's creed, passed down for generations.

From the way Mirai and his mother were treated after his birth, to how Zen'in Fan had immediately remarried, this creed's cruelty was made abundantly clear.

The Zen'in family pursued strength above all else. Those without the talent for sorcery were deemed worthless. This applied to Zen'in Toji, Zen'in Maki, and now, Zen'in Mirai.

...

The wooden door slid open without a sound as Mirai stepped inside. He froze for a moment, surprise flickering in his eyes before his killing intent surged forward in a wave.

Already dressed and holding his cursed weapon, Zen'in Fan was equally surprised by the boy's arrival.

"Worthless trash. You don't belong here," Fan spat instinctively, before his gaze shifted to the bloodstains on Mirai's robe and the thick, iron scent in the air. His expression became one of shock.

He had been roused from sleep by the overwhelming stench of blood.

But it was the person standing before him that surprised him even more.

Facing his son's undisguised intent to kill, a fleeting glimmer of interest crossed Fan's eyes. "It seems you're not as worthless as I thought. At least you have some guts."

"Yes, Father."

At Fan's "praise," the boy's lips twisted into a sickly grin.

"This is the last time I'll be paying my respects to you. Make sure to remember it."
