Those sounds gradually subsided and we awaited the results, our hearts raced as the shadow drew near until the figure of a man fully emerged from the corner and into the tunnel breathing heavily.
"Alright let's go," Allesio spoke to us with and voice twitched from the clash.
"What happened out there?" The Princess asked him as we walked closer.
Allesio did not reply but turned around and continued to lead us and we followed.
When we stepped out of the tunnel our eyes saw the frightened sight of blood and death that laid by our left, our mouths couldn't close shut and the Princess looked somewhat traumatized. We stared at the deceased and then back at Allesio several times, even I couldn't believe he killed the man.
"He was an enemy, let's go," He instructed us with a voice that exhibited full authority.
Our legs shook as we followed him from behind. Allesio turned around and couldn't deal with our slow pace and the expression on his face gave his displeasure away.
He walked towards us in a hurry and I thought he was going to thunder at us to walk faster but he did not. Rather, he went behind us and took his sword off the sheath, he had chosen to walk behind us instead for further protection as we were children before his eyes.
"Where are you taking us?" The Princess asked him.
"I am forbidden to say that out here my Princess, you would know by the time we get there-
"I am the princess, what is wrong with telling me where you are taking us to?" She Interrupted in a loud voice.
Allesio sighed in frustration and responded, " Please keep your voice down my princess to avoid drawing the attention of the rivals, the reason I can't inform you of our destination is to be security conscious as there may be intruders listening or someone may hear it and due to how fast information spreads, it could get to the enemies."
The silence after that prevailed for minutes, we walked through a long pathway with walls the height of five grown men standing on each other, the route was endless but it was our only hope of escape according to Allesio.
As we approach the end of that pathway, I saw trees leading into a dark forest that made me scared.
"Are we going into that thing?" The Princess asked the question that was on my mind. Even with the torches on our hands I was still scared of the dangers that lurked behind every tree and every dark shrub and grasses.
My fear of rodents and reptiles kicked in and my heart racede, I wondered how I would walk through the forest and hold my peace and not scream at every ruffling sound I heard.
"It is the only way my Princess, do not fear, I shall be with you all the way," Allesio mumbled but non of his words changed the nervous and worried look on either of our faces.
"Just follow me and you would be fine, do look out for serpents, it has been reported to thrive in this part of the forest,"
At that point, I lost my sanity. Allesio was supposed to make us feel safe and relaxed, instead, he increases our fear to the max. And just when I thought that it couldn't get any more frightening Allesio suddenly added,
"We may have to leave our torches here, the light may cause attention to be drawn toward us which is not a good thing."
Even the Princess was short of words, I wondered if Allesio said those words to scare us on purpose.
He went ahead of us, after taking the burning wood from our hands and putting them off by rubbing it against the floor. He used his sword and slashed through long bushes on our path, while we walked behind him like little children scared of death.
"How long till we get out of here?" The Princess asked, apparently we had just began the journey to where we didn't know.
"Just hang in there my Princess, if you get tired, do let me know and I'll carry you on my back while we go," Allesio gestured and I almost chuckled at the thought of seeing the Princess on Allesio's back like a child on his father's back.
"No thank you, I think I can walk just fine," She responded, she may have been embarrassed by my slight chuckle or just didn't want to be carried by a mere guard as she would refer to it.
After we walked for thirty minutes, my feet were tired, I was used to walking such long distances but not under so much fear and tension, I was still surprised how I gained the confidence to embark on that dangerous trail and made no sound.
Even the thought of being with Allesio on that journey, and trusted him wholeheartedly got me wondering if it was a dream. Why wasn't it Adriel who was a knight and could have probably protected us better than the guard before us?
The trees covered the skies above causing the light from the moon not to penetrate, and left us in a dark forest with nothing but our eyes to navigate. Even the way Allesio swung his sword was something to worry about.
"We are almost there?" He finally announced and I heard the Princess let out a sigh of relief, though we were not there, but since we knew that it was close, it gave me hope but those hopes shattered when I heard a ruffling sound amongst the bushes, I tried to stay calm until something crawled over my feet and caused me to jump in fear.
"What is that?" Allesio turned to ask me with his sword ready to strike whatever it was he thought had attacked me, even the princess ran towards him and held his cloth as if she wanted to climb him like a ladder.
"Don't move Sage!" Allesio instructed and my heart skipped a beat, those words only meant one thing and I hoped it wasn't what I thought of.
