The moon that was swallowed by the time, Kala. When the night sky is dark without stars. Under the dark sky was a nameless forest with dead trees that strangely continued to grow without being stopped by anything.
I found myself sprawled across the rough dry grass beneath me. My head felt heavy, and I couldn't even move my fingertips. My eyes stared blankly at the red moon that was slowly being swallowed up by the shadow of the giant head named Kala.
My vision is blurry and foggy, trying to make out a faint figure of a woman dancing on the lake. Ripples of water formed from her bare feet, while the wind danced with her blue scarf. The girl's dance was gracefully swaying with both soft, graceful hands.
The girl's figure drew closer, smiling at me showing a row of bunny teeth. Slowly I realized, that I could not feel my heartbeat or breath blowing from my nostrils. It was as if I died, and the dancer was dancing the dance of death.
As soon as the moon disappeared and was replaced by a giant head hanging there, the dancer approached me. Staring at me closely with the face of my sister Ajeng there. A pair of blue eyes stared at me intently with a smile full of mystery. The Ajeng-faced woman then lifted my face into the air and in a whisper she said.
"Arise, in the name of Kalarahu. O My brother who holds the key to the destruction of mankind. Atmajakala!"
My body suddenly stiffened, I felt a burning heat explode in my chest. My hands clenched into fists as my eyes closed in pain. A silvery-white light appeared to pierce my chest, slowly forming a kris without a shell. The light from the surface of the blade dazzled my eyes, lit up the place, and then drowned it in an ocean of light.
The white light turned into the light of dawn, blinded my eyes for a moment, and then disappeared as soon as I forced myself to wake up and close the curtain.
"God, my dream this time was really weird. Is this the continuation of my dream on that hill?"
I washed my face and got ready to take a shower, but when I looked at the clock on the wall I stopped myself and decided to postpone breakfast too.
As usual, to go to school I prefer to walk to a T-junction not far from my house, then take a local minibus called an angkot along with the elderly who go to the market.
But before that, I have to walk on the sidewalk bathed in swan flowers before reaching the T-junction. My mind drifted trying to remember the dream that was getting clearer and clearer. The pain in my chest was still there as if the dream was real. I tried to remember the name said by the figure of the girl who looked like Ajeng. But my empty mind can't reach it, as if my mind tries to erase the memory of my dreams every time I wake up in the morning.
An angkot with number three heading Kijing – Pasar Kliwon – Tugu Bandoso stopped in front of me. From outside the angkot, I saw a girl with glasses reading a book. Without reading the name of the school on the sleeve of her white and gray uniform I immediately knew who the nerdy lady was.
"Morning, Chief."
Without permission, I sat beside him, interrupting her reading just as the towel-slung city transport driver pressed the gas pedal.
"Oh, Aji Saputra? Morning! How was your vacation? Playing at your sister's dad's villa again? Or having a family holiday to Bali with your sister?"
The bespectacled girl, Nina returned to struggling with her notebook. She wrote a few sentences and then looked at me, waiting for an answer from his morning pleasantries.
"I'm just at home as usual. And, visiting my father's grave."
"Both with your sister right, great. Should I pass this big news on to the class? After all, what happened last semester? Did you appoint your sister as a student guardian to collect your report card? Ask her to claim to be your mother like that?"
"Please, don't talk about it anymore. That's when my uncle…"
"Yes, yes, I understand. Busy outside the island, while your relationship with your parents is not good. I understand, but at least you can ask Mrs. Sukma or the BK teacher to represent you. It's a good thing your sister came late because otherwise, the class might find out."
Nina smiled half threateningly, when the angkot started to pass Kliwon Market, a group of women from inside the angkot immediately got off, the angkot returned to being quiet because it was rare for people in the center of Bandoso City to go to the main market.
"By the way Aji, did you ever tell me about your late father's collection of old books?"
"Is that true?"
Nina took her cell phone from her pocket, showed me the voice recording app that was running while flashing a triumphant smile at me.
"So how about the weekend? You don't mind, do you?"
I nodded slowly, I took a deep breath and leaned limply on the minibus window. Nina got off ahead of me as soon as we arrived at SMAN Bandoso, the school was still quiet, remembering that the clock was just past six o'clock. I could leave earlier by bike, but I hate sweating in the morning.
Seeing Nina fall back into the book on her lap, I suddenly remembered my dream last night, and also my dream on the hill when I was with Ajeng. Should I ask Nina the meaning of my dream? Ah no, that girl is a person who hates superstitions a lot. Maybe I should ask about the creature that appeared in my dream. If I'm not mistaken, the creature is a giant that appears in wayang and Javanese mythology
