[Upgrading System... 85%]

The system upgrade was faster than Jake had expected.

[Congratulations! The system has successfully leveled up to: Level 2!]

[Quest System has been activated!]

'Good! Looks like I've made the right decision again.' Jake sighed in relief. 'The system looks even more stable now.'

The flashing had stopped. There was even a blue metallic-lustered wallpaper in the background now, giving the system a futuristic look.

'Also, with quests unlocked, it should be possible to gain Click Points. Tsk. Very nice.'

'This is almost the best outcome.'

A stream of tiredness hit Jake like a tidal wave. Seeing that the results were good, Jake totally relaxed himself now.

Out of curiosity, Jake clicked the [ Quest ] tab with his mind.

[ Critical Collection Quest! ]

Quest Description: Submit a Philosopher's Stone to the system.

* Detailed Information [Click to Unfold]

* Hologram Image [Click to Unfold]

Reward:

* 100,000 Click Points

* System Level 3 Upgrade Unlocked

Jake took a closer look at the system upgrade button. Yep. It's grayed out now. Can't click on it.

'A philosopher's stone? Haven't heard of that before.' Jake lightly knitted his brows.

Reading through the detailed description, Jake lightly shook his head. This was mainly dimensions, weight, texture information. Didn't help that much.

As someone who's been studying the trade of artisans, he knew a large range of materials.

'Maybe it's not a material? Maybe it's a product?' Jake couldn't be sure.

Ding!

A message popped into Jake's head.

[ You have triggered a collection Quest! ]

Taking a look in the quest tab, a new quest was being generated.

The system operation speed was much faster now.

[ Collection Quest ]

Quest Description: That monster core looks rather delici$*#

The quest window quickly flashed a few times.

[ Collection Quest ]

Quest Description: That monster core looks rather precious. Submit it to the system!

Reward: 1 Click Point.

Jake lightly squinted in thought. Taking a look at his dining room, on the dinner table, there were three scrolls and some crafting materials.

'It has detected this on my table?'

Using the word 'precious' to describe the monster core... That didn't seem much better.

'Hello? System AI? Anyone there?'

No response.

'Good.' Jake nodded.

He preferred the system to be a mindless tool. Felt safer to him. Still... The tone felt a little weird.

Also, only 1 click point?

This was a material that's worth over $1,000. Just 1 Click Point?

Levelling up even the cheapest skills cost 100 click points.

And this was just entry level. Who knew what's the cost for level ups at higher levels.

'Nevertheless... 100 cores... That's still doable.'

'High tier cores should give more click points right?'

'Yet... Yellow tier realms can be dangerous for me... Also, I haven't seen any yellow tier cores on the market?'

'How troublesome...'

'Maybe that's how the system was designed...'

'There isn't any punishment if I refused either... So I am still the one in absolute control.'

'At the moment, I do not see any imminent threat from this system. So far, it has been much more of an aid than threat.'

'In this case... More observation will be needed. It's better to be cautious. But still...' Jake faintly smiled. 'I'm rather curious of the truth behind the system now. How intriguing...'

'Someday...'

'For now, I'll need more information.'

True, Jake didn't how to submit a material to the system. However, he could guess.

Walking over to the dining room, Jake grabbed that monster core. 'Submit.'

Gradually, the material turned translucent like a hologram, then transparent.

Jake clenched his fist. The monster core suddenly disappeared in thin air. All the weight and its volume disappeared in an instant.

[ Click Point +1 ]

'How magical...' Jake shook his head.

Taking a look outside, it was still dark outside.

Taking out his phone, Jake checked the time.

5:15 AM

'The power of the night is too strong. Even coffee can't help me stay awake.' Jake yawned and moved towards his bedroom.

'I mean... I didn't make my bed yet... Looks like I'm not a morning person after all.'

...

The next day. 2:50 PM.

Holding a cup of fresh coffee, Jake entered the guild hall of the Shining Arrow Guild.

This building was basically a large recreation center. Inside, there were facilities like swimming pools, a gym, administration offices, classrooms, also a larger training room.

Inside, there were various groups of people.

Groups of explorers wearing MMORPG like equipment. Some explorers wore the Shining Arrow logo. Some explorers were just freelancers, paying to use the facilities here.

People in casual clothing waiting in line at the receptionist office. Most likely tourists.

Yep, ever since the pillars appeared, there had always been people who wanted to see how it's like inside, but were too calm and cautious in personality.

As a result, guilds decided to take a stab at this opportunity. Almost all guilds provided tourism services nowadays.

All in all, even on a work day, this guild hall was still half-full.

Taking a quick look around, there wasn't any signs for new recruits. Jake had to line up to ask the receptions.

'I hope I'm not too late...'

"Hey! New guy! Found you!"

"Over here!"

Jake looked in that direction. A group of 5 young fellas walked towards him.

Leading the group was a teenager, about fifteen or sixteen years old.

Wearing a shiny golden jacket. Black shirt. Black jeans. A pair of expensive-looking snickers. His hair was dyed so it faded from a natural blond into a grey shade. Lightly raising his head, wearing a mocking smile, this guy didn't seem to take anyone seriously. From the first look, this guy looked like one of those high school bullies.

This guy was the only one in casual outfit. The explorers behind him were all in combat gear.

"New guy, so you are Samantha's childhood friend, right?" A follower asked.

Before Jake could reply.

"Heard you are a detector." Another explorer added.

"And you are applying to be a full time explorer? I don't think you'll be a good fit for the guild."

Jake lightly knitted his brows. These guys didn't seem that welcoming.

"But that's OK. We are still missing an errand boy."

"Yeah. By the look on your face, you clearly haven't done your homework. You don't know who this is, do you?" That explorer wore a proud expression.

Extending a hand at the teenage kid, that explorer lightly bowed.

Cutting that explorer off, this teenager took over. "Ben Cox. The guildmaster is my dad."

"This is my guild. So you'll do what I say. Got it?" The teenage brat raised his chin further. It was as if he was trying to look down at Jake.

But Jake was about a head taller than this kid.

So to the people around, this kid looked more like an angry chicken looking up at the farmer.

Hearing this claim, Jake sighed.

'Kids nowadays...'
