บท 440: I'm not backing up, I'm facing down

The man peered into her face.

She wasn't sure what all he could see, even this up close, when the lighting was so dim.

She could see his face, but she doubted that leaning in and staring up at him the way that he looked at her would grant her any better understanding.

Not in this dim light.

But that was beside the point.

The point was, she didn't like the urge she had to back away from him even further.

She was beginning to feel like some kind of a skittish horse and she hated it.

So she glared up at him with all the ferocity she could muster.

She didn't immediately answer him, though.

"We both desire to solve the mystery of the death of the king." He finally continued. "And neither of us believe you did it."

She couldn't help but let a touch of anger bleed into her words.

"Why should I believe you're not the one who did it."
