My mother motioned Karen to hug her, and Karen reluctantly stood up and hugged her. I pulled Karen away and kept her by my side in case my mother did not take what I was about to tell her well.

"Now that that is out of the way, I need to tell you the second important thing," I said to my mother, and she frowned, "You have to promise me not to freak out." I pleaded with my mother and put Karen behind me because what I was about to tell her was going to shake things up a bit and make her second guess her acceptance of my relationship.

I took a deep breath and looked at my mother, ready to tell her the truth about Karen.

"What is it, Oscar, You are making me nervous," she said and sat down, sensing what I was about to tell her would make an impact on her.

I took a deep breath and then exhaled, thinking of the best way to break the news to her.

"Karen is John Hunter's daughter and Giles Hunter's grand daughter. Her mother was a witch..."
