บท 15: Chapter 15 - He just sat in the car and watched
Habit is truly a terrifying thing. Over the past three years, she had blocked Daniel's number, afraid that she might not be able to resist calling him when she was feeling vulnerable and helpless.
She didn't cry when she was being retaliated against by Director Huang or when she was rescued by Isaac. But at this moment, her eyes suddenly welled up with tears, and she felt unbearably wronged.
In front of her, Isaac was still kneeling on the ground, apologizing non-stop. She didn't listen to a word he said. Passers-by on the street were looking at them, and she knew that people in the Bentley across the street were watching as well.
Amelia took a deep breath and forcefully suppressed her emotions. She spoke calmly, "Isaac, I just want to ask you one thing. If you saw me with another man, could you forgive me?"
Isaac was taken aback by her words and then shook his head. "Amelia, I know you don't have anyone else. There is no 'if' here."
"What if I really did?"
"Then let him show up now, and I'll turn around and leave without any interference."
Amelia's finger moved to end the call, and then she slowly turned her head to look at the Bentley across the street.
After staring silently for more than a minute, the car remained motionless.
She suddenly laughed, then turned back to Isaac as if genuinely moved by his words. With teary eyes, she pulled him up, and they went into the dorm building together.
When Isaac found out that Amelia hadn't eaten all day, he immediately ordered a table full of high-end takeout and a bottle of red wine.
But Amelia couldn't focus on her meal, her eyes constantly darting out the window.
Isaac had a low alcohol tolerance. After two glasses of red wine, he was drunk and started pouring out his heart.
"Amelia, actually, the reason I was with those older women is because of you... When I'm with you, I always feel inferior."
"You're Professor Foster's precious gem. I fear that I'm too poor to give you the life you want and that I'm not worthy of you."
"In fact, I had a crush on you since college, but back then you were with someone else... After you two broke up, I pursued you for two years. You have no idea how happy I was when you agreed to be my girlfriend... But I couldn't help comparing myself to him..."
Amelia couldn't listen any longer and interrupted him. She took the bracelet he had given her when they became a couple out of her bag and placed it on the table. "Take this back. Let's consider this meal our farewell dinner. From now on, let's each go our separate ways and part amicably."
Isaac's face was flushed from the wine, his eyes fixed on the jade bracelet. Suddenly, he seemed a bit angry and asked her, "I've kneeled down for you, and you still won't forgive me?"
The question was childish in its simplicity. Which law determined that kneeling guaranteed forgiveness?
But Amelia didn't want to argue with a drunk person. She tried to explain to him peacefully: "Perhaps we were never suited for each other in the first place. I'm not as good as you think. Since we started off on the wrong foot, why should we continue down the wrong path? Besides, I have my own issues too... Let's just be friends later, alright?"
Moving on isn't the same as love. This relationship was unfair to Isaac from the start. Over the years, there were quite a few men who pursued her, some with better conditions than him. However, she just couldn't get past that hurdle. She tried to force herself into trying a relationship a few times, but the thought of being intimate with another man was unbearable to her.
She thought that her persistence in this matter was somewhat stupid. Daniel had been married for three years now, enjoying the warmth and tenderness of his wife every night. Yet, to this day, she hadn't considered accepting anyone else.
She had thought that time would heal her, but when Daniel re-entered her life, she finally understood that this issue had nothing to do with time.
