บท 38: Wyvern
Whoosh...
The Massive Lizard thrashed in Wyvern's tight grip, its scales shimmering in the glow of the sun as it desperately tried to break free.
However, the Wyvern didn't even bat an eye. It effortlessly soared higher in the sky, its massive and powerful wings causing a gust of wind that ruffled the leaves on the trees below.
ROOOOOAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR...
As they reached the height of the clouds, I could see the Wyvern arch its neck back and let out a mighty roar that echoed through the skies, making my body go numb in fear.
So... This is a true predator...
Suddenly, the Wyvern released its grip on the Massive Lizard and let it plummet to the ground below.
Whoosh...
I could hear the rushing sound of the wind as the Lizard fell through the air, its scaly body twisting and writhing in a desperate attempt to survive the deadly descent.
Boooom...
The monster crashed into the ground, creating a massive dust cloud and sending dirt with blood flying in all directions.
Flap... Flap...
The dust settled, revealing the aftermath of the brutal clash. I strained my eyes to witness the full spectacle before me. The Wyvern slowly descended toward the fallen Massive Lizard, its colossal wings beating with rhythmic grace.
As it drew closer, the towering figure of the Wyvern became apparent, its immense size casting an intimidating shadow over the battlefield.
The Wyvern's body was adorned with gleaming white scales that shimmered in the dying light of the sun. Each scale appeared to be a polished gem, reflecting the surrounding landscape in a mesmerizing display. Its muscular frame exuded power and dominance, a testament to its position as a true predator.
Grrr...
Unfazed by my presence, the Wyvern paid no attention to my injured body slumped against the sturdy trunk of a nearby tree. Instead, its attention was fixed solely on the fallen Lizard. With a swift motion of its massive maw, the Wyvern tore into the flesh of its defeated prey, relishing the taste of victory.
'Hecking hell...'
Looking at its frame I cursed, feeling the terror of witnessing such a powerful creature up close.
Wyverns were at the top of the food chain, ultimate predators that commanded fear and respect.
Even being near such a creature made my thoughts blank and my body go numb with a mix of awe and fear.
My gaze wandered, my eyes searching for something that caught my attention amidst the chaos. And there, engraved upon the Wyvern's chest, was a symbol that drew me closer. It depicted a skull, its vacant eye sockets filled with an air of ominous foreboding. Two formidable horns protruded from either side, while a sword pierced through the skull, symbolizing a deadly prowess.
"..."
Looking at the symbol, I couldn't help but swallow my saliva as a knot of unease formed in my stomach.
This was not an ordinary Wyvern...
This was a mount used by the Demon Extinction Force, probably the ones that were stationed by the border.
'Damn...'
Looking at the dreadful monster, I realized that the situation was even more dire than I had initially thought.
Previously, I only speculated about the presence of powerful creatures in this area, but seeing a Wyvern with the emblem of the Demon Extinction Force confirmed my fears.
It seems that crossing the border will be a lot more challenging and dangerous than anticipated.
"..."
Observing as the Wyvern devoured its prey with a primal ferocity, I shuddered.
If I were in my Demon Form, I would've been the prime target of that Wyvern's predatory instincts.
This Wyvern was groomed by the Demon Extinction Force and its main target was undoubtedly demons like me.
Luckily, I was still in my Wendigo form and since I was heavily injured the Wyvern didn't seem to pay me much attention.
Crack...
As I watched the Wyvern tear into its fallen prey, I couldn't help but be captivated by the gruesome spectacle unfolding before me. Its jaws opened wide, revealing rows of razor-sharp teeth stained crimson with blood. With each bite, gurgling sounds filled the air as flesh was torn apart, and the sickening crunch of bones echoed through the clearing.
Grrr...
The Wyvern's eyes glinted with a primal hunger as it devoured the Massive Lizard, its powerful neck muscles flexing with each gulp. It seemed to take pleasure in the act of consuming its defeated opponent, relishing every morsel of flesh and bone.
The scent of blood hung heavy in the air, mingling with the metallic tang of death. The Wyvern's feasting continued, unabated, until a distant whistle pierced through the sounds of carnage.
Swish...
At the sound, the Wyvern abruptly stopped its devouring, its head snapping up, its senses alert. Its massive wings unfurled, sending a gust of wind rippling through the surrounding foliage. With a single powerful beat, it lifted itself into the air, leaving behind the remains of its conquest.
I could only watch in awe as the Wyvern ascended, its wings propelling it higher and higher, until it disappeared into the clouds. The whistle had called it away, and it obeyed, leaving me alone in the aftermath of its brutal display of dominance.
"Damn..."
I'll somehow have to slip unnoticed through that creature's watch.
