The next day,
"Mona and James are out to do some work today. I will be your teacher for the day."
Melida was with him today for his spell training.
"Mona told me that you have decent control. You completed the water training?"
"Yes. It was easy to make it, but it was hard to keep it in the air."
He turned a small amount of mana into a small droplet, mimicking what Mona had done yesterday.
"Splendid, but we need to speed up."
A small bubble formed around the both of them, turning them invisible.
"This would keep people from disturbing us."
She pointed towards the grimoire in his hands and said,
"What is the next chapter?"
He opened the book, read the title, and said,
"Ignition."
--------------------------------------
"Young master, slow down."
Julius had been looking forward to meeting Vincent again. He was going to persuade him to teach him to control today, whatever his demands.
"Hurry up, teacher."
He was early today. No one had entered the ground yet.
"Teacher, give me some spells to practice."
The man smiled. He was happy to see the young master enthusiastic about something.
'A bubble?'
He sensed a small amount of magic around the corner.
'Is she here?'
He looked towards Julius, who was fired-up.
"Master, you should focus on your practice for today. The boy might not come."
Julius didn't listen. He knew for sure that Vincent was going to come.
---------------------------------------
"Fire is more difficult to control. You have to keep it away from your body."
She created some fire in the air.
"Try touching it."
Vincent gulped nervously.
"Don't worry."
He touched the fire. It didn't burn his finger. He could feel some heat, but his finger was unharmed.
"You need to feel what a fire is before you try to create it."
The heat slowly increased, but it didn't hurt him. The initiation process was important to give him an idea of ignition.
"That's enough."
She put out the flame.
"Did you get it?"
He nodded.
"Take another look at the page. Then, you do it."
-----------------------------------------
Two hours had passed. Many other mages had entered the training ground by now.
'Why isn't he here yet?'
"Young master, concentrate."
He created too much water. Unable to control it, it splashed down on the ground.
----------------------------------------
A small flame raised in his hand. Its base was floating above his palm.
"You did well. With this, Ignition is complete. Now, we move to the next lesson."
He smiled, but his face was exhausted. Unlike the previous lesson, this one was more difficult.
Controlling and containing a flame was extremely taxing. When you turned mana into the water, that's it. You only have to contain it with mana next, which was not a problem.
Flame-type magic expends mana continuously. The source is mana, so it requires continuous consumption. Along with that, he also needed to keep it floating in the air. Continuous casting was still new to him, so he failed more than 20 times. He was too tired to keep count after the 20th attempt.
Melida knew this. Vincent refused to give up, and he succeeded. He was going to collapse any second.
"Grandma, I still have enough mana left. Then why do I feel so tired?"
He asked her softly.
"Your body plays an important part in casting. You don't need to train like a warrior to cast magic, but you need to keep your body accustomed to the mana usage."
He collapsed on the floor. Today's training was over.
She smiled. The kid didn't take work for granted.
"I'll let Mona take him out to tour the city tomorrow."
She popped the bubble.
------------------------------------------
"Look, Miss Melida!"
A bunch of nobles around the bubble was startled by her sudden appearance.
"Gentlemen."
She swayed her hand and raised Vincent mid-air.
"I'll take my leave now."
The famed healer of the Adventurers guild was training an unknown boy. Many of the nobles present in the room have attempted to enter her tutelage.
"Melida."
Julius looked at his side. His teacher was calling towards the imposing lady.
"Orthos."
She looked towards him in disgust. Without sparing him another glance, she merely acknowledged his existence and left the ground.
"Teacher, do you know her?"
Orthos looked at the ring in his hand. His eyes were full of sorrow.
"Yes, young master. She is a strong mage."
"What is her name?"
He had never seen the woman before.
"Melida Kindred."
---------------------------------
"Thank you for bringing him back."
"Don't mention it. He is my responsibility as well."
She placed Vincent on a bed.
"Ask him to practice ignition for the next few days. He still needs more practice."
Melida left after casting a few recovery spells on him, boosting his condition.
"Take care."
------------------------------
"50 gold, 20 silver."
Today was payday. James counted the money in his hand and felt like a noble.
"Thank you."
"Pleasure doing business with you."
The guild merchant was happy to be able to rip off James. The bones were worth 2000 gold coins, the same amount as the budget earned by the duchy every month. The information was worth 20 silver, which was agreed on before they accepted the job.
He left the merchant's residence.
He left for the shopping district. He was going to buy some sweets for Vincent and Mona.
"What is all the commotion about?"
A large crowd had gathered by the side of the road.
"For the first time in 3 years, Princess Minerva is going to visit the guild to post an official request."
One of the women answered immediately.
"What is the request?"
"No one knows. All I know is that the mission is important to her."
A carriage appeared in the distance. The crowd started to cheer.
"The Royal Carriage."
