Her fallen head rose a little, her eyes swept all of the coals that were placed around her. They were huge and were only a few metres away from her. Any distance closer and she could feel the coals on her body.
There was no way all these cruelest beings were joking with her!
"Ten feet backwards and light the coals."
Hearing those words, her eyes opened widely. As if she had gained more strength than she had exhausted, she pulled the chains that were on her hands closed to her but the men were stronger than she was. It did not make it easy when they kept pulling her to themselves.
She felt her whole body tearing about internally, her wrists and ankles were red and almost looked fractured. Her kneecaps which by now would have been bleeding were aching her. She truly could not cope with this any longer.
"I said, light the coals!"
A thunderous voice brazed up the air and she trembled. She could not see the man who was commanding them but she saw that he was feared because all of the men around her seemed to be shaken.
They all started putting on fires in each of the coals. Beneath the coals were dried woods that surrounded her like she was the food in a pot. They had already lit up the coals and there was a sudden heat piercing down her skin.
A muffled whimper came out from her as her pale skin suddenly changed colour into that of tar smoke.
"Put more coals. It is not reaching her," she heard that same hoarse voice and with just that, she felt the hot flames slowly crawl around her with crumbling noises.
All that she could see was a burning flame around her surrounding like an orb, her cold body started heating up at a fast rate and all the pores that were on her skin started widening.
Her brown eyes suddenly turned into deep blood red and a scream erupted from her throat making tiny winds appear from nowhere.
She felt her clothes already turning into ashes even though the fire was just a little close to her. When she tried to pull herself away from them for the last time, after channeling all the energies that she has within herself, she heard another voice from the crowd. "Free her, now."
There was a sudden quietness she had never experienced since the time she came here. Initially, she thought maybe she had fainted but then, she could still feel the aura around where she was and the burning flames around her.
Despite the voice that had told them all to release her, no one wanted to. Even the cheering she had heard from the crowd when that other voice oozed into the air seemed to have suddenly disappeared.
The flames were already doing a lot of harm to her. If she bat an eyelid, all that she could see was the fire surrounding her. She felt relaxed when the people dragging the chains around her limbs were no longer doing that. But that was not enough yet.
It was a miracle that she had not turned into ashes yet, despite this terrible heat that was oozing in and out.
"I said free her right now!" The voice came again, but this time, it was hoarser than the previous even than the other voice initially.
As if they had all come back to her senses, they all gathered and brought many buckets of water, they poured it all over her and the fire immediately turned into hot embers.
Hazel's white garment attached to her body like it was a skin of her own and then her wet red hair fell across her red eyes, giving out a terrific appearance. She was feeling weak by the second. The people in front of her were looking like moving corpses, she shook her head and fell on the cold floor.
"Unchain her!"
Another voice came again and before she knew it, the chains dropped and many fingers were touching her wrists and ankles and before she knew it, she was freed. But then, she could not do anything. No words were urging to come out from those lips of hers.
Her pale skin was covered with tar smoke making her look like a little devil who had just come back from the hell.
"Alpha Lucifel, there is a need to test how much immortality is harnessed in her. It is crystal clear that the vampires lied about the chosen ones having zero immortality."
The man who had said this was the same man that had told them to light the coals. Hazel could recognise the voice so clearly. She wanted to see who the man could be exactly but then, the energy in her gave no room.
Alpha Lucifel who was standing beside Hazel knelt beside her, his eyes ravaged the vampiress' body and a smirk appeared on his left cheek. He stood up and gazed at the man, "Ethan, do you have to kill her before knowing that she is not an immortal?"
Ethan, the beta of the Blood Moon pack was known to be hot-tempered and strict at the same time. Everyone knew that the alpha and the beta did not get along, the only time they get along was when it pertained to the affairs of the pack and other packs.
It was a surprise that none of them had involved each other in a deadly battle despite how strong-headed they both were. Even the members did not understand the kind of relationship they shared because they always appear frankly harsh on each other.
If it were anyone in the pack that was against the Alpha's will or order, he would not hesitate to kill such member. It was one of the reasons the pack members thought there was definitely a reason why the Alpha was free with the beta and the beta somehow had rights to counter him. But for this reason, no one dared spread rumours nor did they dare counter whatever the Alpha says.
"Alpha Lucifel," his voice was naturally hoarser, " This vampiress is a prisoner, it is something she must go through as she is part of the enemies."
He paused and then looked at the Alpha, "else there is something between the vampiress and you that you are unable to utter?"
