"This was not the purpose of coming to New Jersey in advance, not at all. We actually spent the whole night in the car, but thankfully we got some roasted sausages." J muttered as he struggled to chew the sausage.
"When we get to Mercer County, we'll have to ask around about Sam first. That shouldn't be too hard. I'll show you how detectives find strangers in a strange place."
J thought it was his turn to teach the rookie, and although he couldn't match N in terms of fighting prowess, he was certainly above N in terms of ingenuity. N treated him like a fool before, boasting about kung fu. When he found out that the M.I.B's internal testing said that N had a partial mutation in his genes and was far more physically superior than the average person...
J knew that it was all nonsense. 'How could some kind of kung fu mutate his genes?' He was sure that N was just a mediocre, unemployed young man before. He would have poked holes in N's lie if the information hadn't shown that training the horse stance does strengthen that area.
Last time, N said he was going to teach him some martial arts moves. He did some research and realized that it was fucking radio gymnastics for primary school students!
When they arrived in Mercer County, J sat up straight. By now it was dawn and many people were leaving their homes and driving to work.
"Stop, N, see that place? It's a specialized mechanic shop. Someone there must know Sam."
After waiting in front of the workshop for almost 2 hours, they saw someone approach to open the garage door.
"Hey, is Sam here today?" J approached him with a self-invited look.
"Which Sam? Who are you?"
"I've got a race date with Sam, and the loser is gonna treat us to a round in John's pub. I'm Edwards, we met at a race months ago."
The owner shot a sidelong glance at J. 'A racer? How come Sam never told me about him?'
"Are you talking about Sam Sexton? He never lets other people fix his bike, don't you know that? If you're looking for him, you should look for him at Downton Farm. It's on the west side of town."
"Thanks!" J inquired and turned to leave, but was pulled back by the other man, "Anything else?"
"I told you about Sam, shouldn't I get something for the tip? 10 bucks."
"What? It's just a couple of words, and you want 10 dollars from me?"
A 10-dollar bill was handed over from the side, and the man took it, "Looks like your partner knows better."
When they got in the car, J was still complaining, "Why did you give him 10 dollars? I've seen a lot of people like that, I can handle it."
"You used to be a cop. You just need to flash your badge, and they'll let you go. But now, are you sure we want everyone to see and remember you? Or were you going to neuralyze him?"
"Ugh, let's just go around the area first. I think we're onto something here."
"Around? Shouldn't we check Downton Farm first?" J didn't understand what Noah was after. They just got some information, 'Does he think there's a problem here?'
"I'm thinking someone is going to approach us soon. That guy before knows Sam, and he knows were asking for tips about him, not looking for him." Noah was very certain about that.
With the smell of Sam on his body, he didn't believe that Sam had never been to that shop. Maybe Sam came here before he went to find them.
Now that the other party knew that they were looking for Sam, he would definitely inform Sam's partners. Noah was particularly looking forward to having a few alien guests, preferably those who like to resist. He couldn't wait to earn some treasure chests.
Immediately after they left, the owner of the workshop made a phone call.
"Boss, someone came asking about Sam. Yes, wearing a black suit and tie. I tried to stall them, but I couldn't."
"Yeah, I told them about Downton Farm. It looks like they're going that way. Okay, I understand."
In a villa in Burlington County, someone hung up their phone.
'Damn it, those Men in Black are fucking annoying. They actually got this far. Luckily, he had been prepared for this, and by spending a little Earth money, he was able to get a lot of underworld earthlings to work for him.
He just needed to lead those men in black on a wild goose chase, and by the time they realize it, the deal would be done. When he had already left earth, those Men in Black wouldn't be able to chase after him.
...
"N, I think you're overthinking it man. There's no one following us. We've been wandering around for 2 hours for nothing. " J looked through the rearview mirror. 'We might as well go and get something to eat.'
Noah was a little embarrassed, "Well, there's no harm in being cautious. Let's get something to eat and then go to Downton Farm to check it out."
'Maybe I really am overthinking it. We've been wandering around with my Alien Radar on for so long, and I haven't seen a single red dot.'
When they were walking around outside of Downton Farm, Noah felt that something was wrong. He didn't see any red dots, so there were no aliens around.
"J, are you sure we want to keep an eye on this place? Shouldn't we go back to Burlington?"
J frowned, "N, don't you feel like everything went on too smoothly since we arrived in Burlington? Since we noticed that an alien was breaking into your car, and tracing him to Downton farm?"
"Even if we were the one noticing all those things, it was as if someone knew we were coming, and instructed those people to tell us on purpose. If there's no such thing as an alien ship, what are we gonna do?"
Noah thought for a moment, "Report to headquarters and stay here for at least 24 hours. Are you saying someone wants us to stay here?"
"Bingo! That's what I meant!" J snapped his fingers, "So we'll just keep hanging around here, and at night, we'll quietly sneak back into Burlington."
"There might be an ambush at the farm. Let them wait there in hiding. Let's go and get something nice to eat and take a break."
At Downton Farm, several people were waiting and hiding with guns in their hands. The boss had ordered them to kill an enemy that was on their way over, those people had killed one of their comrades. All they had to do was take out these strangers, and they could collect their money.
But after waiting for a long time, they didn't see anyone coming. 'Was there something wrong with the orders we got?'
"Willis, should we ask the boss? When are those guys coming?"
"Shut up, the boss just told us to stay here and wait. They must have thought it's risky to come during the day, so they're coming at night."
"You know the boss has a temper. Calling him at this hour, you wanna get me killed? Just kill any outsiders that come to the farm, the boss will definitely give us a large sum of money."
"Cheer up. Just think about what you're gonna do with that much money."
Willis yelled at some of his men, and went to the bathroom himself. He was feeling a little tired too, so he needed a cigarette as a pick-me-up. When the boss gave him his pay, he was going to enjoy himself with something a little more than a cigarette.
At night, a man, at a Burlington County villa, was looking at the communicator in his hand. Suddenly the red light on the communicator came on, and a strange sound came out of it.
