บท 31: Chapter 31: Red Keep 4

A dark cloud obscured the moon, and the shadow it cast seemed to fall directly into Ned's heart.

He had no time to worry about himself now. After all, he had experience in leading troops in battles and was very sensitive to surveillance. He knew that no one could save him in this situation.

As for Jon, he hadn't thought about it at all. It had been less than half a month since Robb sent him the letter. In his opinion, Jon would not be able to reach King's Landing no matter what.

At the same time, he didn't want Jon to get involved in this mess.

What Ned is most worried about now are his two daughters.

Ned stood in front of the window and looked towards the direction of the old city gate. After all, the Red Castle was the highest point in the entire King's Landing. He only needed to look where the lights were the brightest to determine where the upper class of King's Landing lived.

And that's where Sansa usually attends banquets.

As for Arya, ever since she found a sword-fighting teacher for him, she would not stop until she was exhausted from practicing every day.

Suddenly, he heard the sound of a door opening. Ned immediately became alert and picked up the sword beside him.

After all, if the visitor was an official guest, someone would have come to inform him first. Ned put one hand on the hilt of the sword. Although he had a wounded leg, he was ready to fight at any time.

Based on his combat experience which had become a conditioned reflex, he subconsciously adjusted his breathing, and a head slowly popped out.

A familiar face appeared before his eyes.

"Jon...Jon?!"

He could hardly believe his eyes. He found that Jon had grown a lot taller than before he left Winterfell, and looked thinner too. However, this kind of thinness was not skinny, but as straight and sturdy as a spear.

"My Lord, I am here to rescue you."

Jon deliberately lowered his voice. Ned found that Jon seemed to be avoiding something and deliberately keeping a distance from the window.

"Hurry up and sit back down, sir. There are people watching us outside."

Jon whispered to Ned and pointed outside. Ned realized that he must be being monitored. In fact, he had noticed it these days.

Jon crouched down, lowered his body to the same height as the bottom edge of the window, and gradually approached Ned's desk.

"Sir, please pass me a piece of paper."

Ned didn't know what he was going to do, but he did it anyway. Jon used a dagger to carve a silhouette of Ned's appearance on paper, and then signaled Ned to turn off the lights.

At this time, the people outside who were watching Ned had just recovered from the attack by wild cats and birds.

When he found that the lights in the room were out, he perked up, but after a while the lights came on again and Ned's shadow appeared in the window, and he felt relieved again.

At this time, Jon had already supported Ned to the door far away from the window.

"How did you get in?"

Although Ned had many doubts, when Jon appeared in front of him, what he was most worried about was Jon's safety.

"Let's go first. I'll talk to you slowly after we leave."

Ned asked, "Are you alone?"

"No, the guards you sent to Lord Beric are waiting outside the city."

Ned was extremely surprised. He couldn't understand how Jon could reach King's Landing in such a short time, and he couldn't understand how he could sneak into the heavily guarded Red Castle.

And why did Beric agree to let the guards assigned to him leave with Jon?

Ned was about to get up, but waved his hand: "Go quickly, don't worry about me, take Sansa and Aria with you if you can."

But then he denied himself.

"No, just make sure you are safe and don't worry about anyone else."

Ned waved his hand as if to shoo him away.

Jon knew that Ned would not happily follow him away. His honor and morals, which he cherished as much as his life, would not allow him to do so.

"Sir, or should I call you uncle now? I ran more than a thousand miles in half a month to save you. Are you going to let me leave like this?"

He knew how a younger generation should persuade the elders, which was to show his sincerity first.

"Sir, let's take a step back. Even if we don't escape, the worst that can happen is that we put on black clothes. At least we can protect Sansa and Arya."

After Jon's emotional and logical persuasion, Ned agreed to his proposal.

"Answer me a question. Why do you think Baelish is unreliable?"

Jon calculated the time in his mind. He didn't know when Minnie, who had fainted, would wake up, so he said.

"Lord Stark, trust me this time. Come with me first and we'll talk while we walk. If we wait until daybreak, we won't be able to get out."

Ned agreed to Jon's request, and Jon carried him down the tower.

Ned suddenly remembered that Stark's ancestral sword Ice was still in the study, but the thought only flashed through his mind for a moment before being thrown aside.

After all, human lives are at stake now, and a sword means nothing.

I have to say that the strength increase that the experience card brings to Jon is really considerable. Ned, who weighs 160 to 170 kilograms, is as light as a feather on Jon's back, and his steps can still be steady and light.

Ned was also surprised at Jon's growth. After all, he was not yet fifteen years old and his body had not yet fully grown. When they parted at Winterfell, Jon was just as tall as his nose, but now he was almost as tall as him.

What surprised him even more was Jon's strength. When coming down the stairs, Ned could even feel a stream of air blowing across his face. However, in just a few dozen seconds, the two of them reached the last step, and a huge wooden barrel appeared in front of them.

"Sir, you can hide in here. I will take you out."

After all, Ned was someone who had rolled around in a pile of dead bodies. Even though he recognized what it was used for, he did not show any disgust. Instead, with the help of Jon, he went straight in and curled up to hide inside.

However, as soon as Jon put the lid on, he became a little worried. How would Jon move this waist-high barrel with a diameter of nearly four feet?

If Jon carried himself on his back just now with the help of his waist and legs, then to move the barrel out he would have to rely on pure upper body strength.

He could feel when Jon was supporting himself just now that Jon didn't have much flesh on his upper limbs.

But soon he was no longer worried. Ned in the big wooden barrel felt that he was lifted off the ground and was even very stable, without any shaking at all.

After a while he felt himself being put on a cart. With the sound of the wheels under the cart, he knew that Jon had taken him away.

On the way, Jon took the opportunity to talk about his own indirect reasons why he could not trust Littlefinger, starting from the biggest suspicious dagger, and then to Catelyn's secret trip south being discovered.

Of course, Jon also expressed his own speculation, which is that Littlefinger is likely using the incest between Cersei and Jaime to drag Arryn into some vortex conspiracy.

Listening to Jon's words, Ned himself began to ponder. After about twenty minutes, Jon suddenly stopped. Ned, who was unaware of the situation outside, became alert, held his breath and put his ear close to the edge of the barrel.

Jon did get into a bit of trouble, and a palace guard stopped him.

"Routine inspection!"
