“We can’t elope! We spent all this money so far, the invitations, everything.” Pad paused then continued. “Are you sure you want to get married? I mean, you can tell me—’’

“Yes. Dammit! I want to marry you.” RJ raised his hands to stop this line of discussion. “I want nothing less. I love you and need you more now than ever.”

Pad grabbed RJ’s hand as they walked. “This isn’t Twelve Steps like the church downtown we go to for therapy.”

“I know. And it’s me that’s going to therapy. You’re just there for support and as an observer.”

They walked down the short hallway and saw an open door to the multi-purpose room. Foldable metal chairs and long tables with faux wooden tops formed a square within the room and sitting next to one of the tables sat Pastor Lisa, her silhouette casting a shadow in the ambient lighting. She stood up, threw her arms out, and smiled. “Hey, guys!”
