บท 5: The Kaisers attention

"Joining Bayern?!" Carlos exclaimed. He knew how much weight this carried in most people's minds, especially in Bavaria. Most Bavarian or Austrian talents join FC Bayern München.

Because of this, the Bayern youth team is known for being a highly competitive environment among talented players.

Carlos was thrilled. He was genuinely happy that his son had been offered a place at Bayern. Perhaps his son could achieve what he himself couldn't.

Still, he looked at his son.

"What will happen if I join Bayern?" Maxi asked with curiosity.

Carlos told his son the truth: it would be harder, but he would get to play more football and have access to more resources.

"Can I join Mom?" Maxi asked, turning to the head of the household.

Sophie nodded with a smile. She understood how much a child could develop a passion for sports.

"Then when do I join?" Maxi asked excitedly.

"Tomorrow is the first training session. Come to Säbener Straße. There, at the youth campus of FC Bayern, we'll first look at your physical data to assess your condition and potential," Hermann Gerland explained.

"We need to call the hospital first and inform them about Maxi participating in professional sports," Sophie told Hermann immediately after he finished explaining.

"Does he have a problem?" Hermann asked, looking concerned.

"No, he's just there for a few check-ups. He has a special eye condition," Sophie quickly explained.

"Oh, you mean his beautiful eyes?" Hermann asked with interest.

"That's part of it. He has pentachromacy, the only documented case in history," Sophie proudly said. This meant that her son was something truly special.

"Yes, I love those eyes. I can see where the ball needs to hit to make a precise shot and also identify players without even looking up. I can tell them apart by their skin tone and never lose sight of the ball," Maxi said proudly, having explored various ways to use his unique vision in football over the past few months.

For instance, he could detect where the most air was in the ball and which part of his shoe was the hardest due to minute color variations. This is something impossible for those without pentachromacy.

"If he strikes the ball with the hardest part of his shoe, it's the strongest shot he can make."

"Wow!" Hermann was astonished, unable to find words. It felt like a small legal cheat.

After this brief conversation with Hermann Gerland, Maxi was thrilled. He could hardly wait for tomorrow.

Seeing his excitement, everyone was happy for Maxi, even Isa.

"Is Bayern good?" Isa asked with a curious expression, as she didn't know much about football.

"They are the best," Maxi said proudly. Though he hadn't watched much football before, he believed that if he joined Bayern, they would be the best.

"That's great," Isa said excitedly.

For the first time, they chatted about football together.

When Maxi arrived home, he was so eager that he went to bed at 3 p.m., unable to wait for the next day.

As one might guess, Maxi lay in bed for five hours before finally falling asleep.

The next morning, Maxi was incredibly excited. He washed his face, brushed his teeth, put on his football clothes and boots, and waited for his parents by the door.

When Carlos and Sophie emerged from their bedroom, they were stunned to see Maxi fully dressed in his football kit.

"Didn't you forget what day it is today?" Sophie asked with a forced smile.

Meanwhile, Carlos had already started laughing.

"Monday. Why?" Maxi asked innocently.

"You have school today!" Sophie exclaimed, giving Maxi a playful tap on the head.

"But what about football?" Maxi asked worriedly.

"The training starts at 5:30 p.m.," Sophie explained.

Maxi, disheartened, changed his clothes.

When it was time for school, Maxi was already in the car chatting with Isa, having forgotten his earlier disappointment.

Fortunately for Maxi, the day passed quickly, and soon he was driven to Säbener Straße.

Seeing the large building complex, Maxi was excited. They drove through a side street and headed towards the Bayern youth academy.

Upon entering the building, Maxi soon recognized Hermann Gerland, who was waiting for him.

"Hello Maxi. I've invited a good friend of mine just for you," Hermann said, pointing to an older man standing beside him.

The older man was Dr. Müller-Wohlfahrt, the renowned doctor for FC Bayern. He was intrigued by the young player, given Hermann's high praise.

Assessing a player's physical data and potential at such a young age is rare, especially by a doctor as famous as Dr. Müller-Wohlfahrt.

"Hi, I'm Dr. Müller-Wohlfahrt. I'll be evaluating your potential today. I hope we'll have a fun day," the doctor said with a smile, extending his hand. Maxi shook his hand in return.

Maxi introduced himself as well.

Shortly after, they proceeded to a testing facility and began all the necessary tests.

After about three hours, the tests were completed. Dr. Müller-Wohlfahrt and Hermann Gerland reviewed the results in amazement.

"His physical potential is extraordinary. The same goes for his ball control. He shows immense potential," Dr. Müller-Wohlfahrt said.

"Did Maxi do well?" Sophie asked nervously.

"His estimated top speed for the 100m is between 9.7 and 11 seconds," Dr. Müller-Wohlfahrt replied, still astonished.

"His acceleration is also the best I've ever seen. It could eventually rival top sprinters or even Olympians," Dr. Müller-Wohlfahrt continued.

"This is, of course, contingent on his growth. Any injuries could drastically alter these results," he cautioned.

"Based on his bone growth so far and the height of you two as parents, Maxi's future height will likely be between 1.84m and 1.91m," Dr. Müller-Wohlfahrt added.

What Dr. Müller-Wohlfahrt did not reveal was that Maxi's sprint speed with and without the ball had only a minor difference, which was astounding. If he achieved his full potential speed, it could be game-changing.

Maxi's potential was so remarkable that it caught the attention of the Kaiser (A/N: a nickname for Franz Beckenbauer). Beckenbauer was very interested in the young talent upon seeing the data and thought he might soon watch one of Maxi's youth games.
