Their colleagues threw mocking looks at them. 

"Jenny, Shirley, are you two competing to see who's more loyal to Miss Simons? Otherwise, why aren't you placing your bets?"

"Well, you can't blame them. One of them is Miss Simons's former assistant, whereas another is her current assistant. It's not hard to understand the competition between them."

"But Jenny, Miss Simons didn't hesitate to remove you from being her assistant. It's the perfect opportunity for you to get back at her. Come and place your bet!"

"That's right. Jenny, what are you waiting for? This is such a great opportunity!"

The other colleagues directed comments at Jenny and Shirley.

Shirley rolled her eyes and said, "I bet a thousand dollars on Miss Simons winning this!"

Everyone else exchanged looks. Wendy said, "Shirley, are you out of your mind?"

"It's none of your business! I can place my bet wherever I like, can't I? I don't need your guidance," Shirley retorted.
