บท 9: Exposing the Truth
You must be joking ma!" Tonia continued.
"What right do you have to open that mouth of yours and say you're my mother!? She laughed then shook her head.
"A mother that actually left me immediately after my birth, not caring if I had died!" She was on the verge of tears and her voice was now shaking as she said,
"Did I just say 'left'? You actually abandoned me for 10 good years, yet you still called yourself my mother. She paused then continued, anger visible on her face.
"Now after so many years, you came back to get me. Do you think I'm some trash that you can just throw away casually and then pick back? huh!?"
" When granny and Pa had told me that my mother was a bad person who left my dad and abandoned me with them to take care of, I secretly wished they were lying, and told myself that you were a good mother. But now, I can see that you're even worse than they had told me. Infact, you're the worst mother on earth!!. After saying this, she ran out of the hall, tears spilling down her cheek. Kate and some of the Lowells' relatives ran after her in a bid to console her.
Madison stood fixed to the spot unable to utter anything for a while. Since she discovered that her daughter was alive, she had always imagined the day she would actually meet her. She had never imagined anything like this. She had always hoped it would be a sweet reunion. But now, she had just ruined everything that was supposed to be a sweet reunion or rather Tracy and Kate had ruined it for her. She turned to glare at the two of them but discovered that Kate was no longer standing at the podium.
The Lowells are really testing her temper. They must have told her daughter loads of lies. They wanted the girl to hate her mother so much or why else will they have told her daughter that she had abandoned her with them. She that was kidnapped and didn't even know of her daughter's whereabout.
Now that she thought about it, they may even have something to do with her kidnap, ten years ago.
She didn't want to think about it now. She was still going to find out one day. It was just a matter of time. But if she ever finds out one day that they are responsible for parents death, then they should be ready to face her wrath, as she going to deal with them mercilessly.
"So you actually lied to my daughter that I abandoned her with you!" Madison asked, her voice full of anger.
Tracy's face reddened instantly. The secret she had been keeping from her son all this years was about to be exposed. No way!!!
"What are you talking about, you bastard!? Yes, you actually left Tonia with me immediately after you gave birth to her. You told me that you were not ready to be a mother and that you were tired of your relationship with my son". She looked at Alex and saw him frowning as if he didn't believe anything she was saying. She was instantly troubled. If Alex should find out that she was lying, he would hate her for it.
"Oh really?, so you're now trying to act like a good mother and grandmother. The good grandmother who singlehandedly brought her granddaughter up, huh? The same granddaughter you wanted me to abort her pregnancy. Did you just say that I left your son because I was tired of our relationship?!"
"Do you have senile dementia or you're just a straight-faced liar? seems like you've forgotten the countless phone calls you always made then, telling me to leave your son and abort the baby I was carrying in my womb?"
Max who had been silently watching the whole drama between his mother and Madison ever since it started, walked up to Madison and asked,
"What are you talking about?"
"I'm saying that your mother tried to separate us and make me abort Tonia. I have evidence to my claims in case you doubt what I'm saying"
Seeing that it has gotten to the extent of bringing out evidence, Tracy refused to back down as she shouted,
"What evidence are you talking about, you shameless bitch!"
"At least, I'm not as shameless as you are!" Madison retorted as she brought out a tape recorder and played out a kind of call recording.
Everyone in the hall kept quiet and listened with all their attention as the conversation between Madison and Tracy, ten years ago was being played.
Immediately the recording stopped playing, everyone started murmuring, giving Tracy stares of disgust.
"What kind of a mother is she?!" Someone shouted.
"Exactly! She really is the shameless one!"
"She actually wanted this lady to abort Tonia"
"Yet she lied about it"
"I put off my cap to her, She really is a senior in lying so boldly!"
Tracy became furious, she felt like her head was spinning.
This bastard actually recorded their conversation!!
"The recording was fabricated!" She shouted.
"It's all a lie! I never called her, not even once. She's obviously lying!"
She went to meet Max where he was standing. She tried to touch him but he moved away from her and shifted to another side.
He really hated his mother now. When Madison at first said it, he had thought in his head that she was spouting nonsense. But now, the evidence was just too clear to be doubted.
"Don't you dare!, mom. Are you still trying to lie?"
"I've been with you for the past 30years of my life and I will never mistake your voice for anyone's! The voice clearly belongs to you. What exactly are you trying to pull by telling me the recording was fabricated?!"
"What exactly do you take me for? A fool or what? Now tell me, was that your voice or not?!"
"Son, it's not what you think it is."
Sharon was feeling extremely embarrassed as she said it.
"What do I think it is!? Do you even know what I think!? Well, I think you're shameless, mom!" Alex shouted at her, pain evident in his voice.
"Then, I knew you never approved of Madison. You never for once liked her. But I didn't know you would ever do something to the extent of telling her to abort her pregnancy!"
"All these years, you kept lying to me and as gullible as I am, I continued believing your lies. Mom, you really are shameless!!"
Max felt really complicated right now. Never in his life would he have thought that his mother was actually as bad as this. She told Madison to abort her pregnancy, yet she still had the guts to lie to him and Tonia that Madison had abandoned them. Though he doubted it a little when he was told, he sometimes still believed that Madison had really abandoned him and their baby and even hated her for it.
All these years, he had been living under such terrible lie, thinking that his mother was a good mother for helping him to raise Tonia. She didn't deserve to be called Tonia's grandmother at all.
Tracy was so infuriated that she felt like giving Madison a good beating for making her son turn against her like this.
"Bitch! can you see what you've caused!?"
She moved closer to Madison and was really going to slap her.
Just as her palm was about to land on Madison's face, a hand suddenly grabbed her wrist roughly.
