Emilia jumped back at the dark tone that came from the creature and dropped her phone in the process, destroying any form of light it had created.
She bent down and her hands rummaged for her phone while her eyes remained glued to the creature in front of her, its bright red rubied eyes almost calling her closer to it.
"Why are you so shaken up little human? " The creature said in a voice almost as sweet honey that it almost lured Emilia over to him.
Emilia knew she had to keep her guard up, as one small move could cause her to be injured or worse, killed by this creature.
"W-what are you? " she asked trying to hide her fear but was betrayed by the slight stutter in her voice
"Me? I am harmless" the creature flashed Emilia a friendly-looking smile before a dark look made its way to his eyes.
"That is when I'm not hungry. So right now I wouldn't count y out so lucky" The creature smiled as a dark sinister look made its way to his face.
Emilia's hands began quickly rummaging through the dirt for her phone as she thought that she might feel slightly less fear if she could get a glimpse of what the creature looked Like.
"Why don't we play a game" it asked in a sinister tone making Emilia's eyes widen.
"What kind of game? " she asked, getting bothered by how the creature stared at her.
His red eyes were cold and pierced right into her light blue orbs, instantly sending a shiver down her spine.
"I'll give you 30 secomd to run," he said with a wide smile that sent shivers down Emilia's spine.
"Why should I run " she asked, her voice indicating that she was indeed getting shaken up.
"Because it's all the fun for me and all the energy for you" he said with a smile as his eyes turned from sweet to devious and evil.
"What happens if you catch me? " she asked in a shaky voice, while slowly standing from her spot.
"well just make sure you don't get caught" he said in a taunting playful voice.
Emilia began taking slow steps back and the creature began walking towards her at the same pace. His steps were as light as a feather but with each step, the leaves rustled and the ground shook, almost as if he had control over everything
"Your time starts now, 30...29...28...27..."he counted with a taunting smirk.
Emilia took a few more steps back and ran as fast as she could. She ran as fast as she could regardless of how much breath she was losing.
She took many twists and turns desperately trying to remember her way home, But no matter how fast she ran she could still hear the playful counting of the creature.
"24...23...22...21" The creature counted its tone shifting from sweet to dangerous and hungry.
The more Emilia ran, the closer she got to reaching her apartment building and the closer she got to safety.
"17...16...15...14"The counting slowly turned to muffled noises making Emilia think she was out of harm's way.
In the distance she could see the shaping of her apartment building, and could make up the shape of the window she thought she had closed before she left for work.
She ran towards the building entrance as though she had been running a track race and ran up the stairs without sparing anyone a glance. She dashed passed the receptionist, Martha, whom she would always greet after each shift, making Martha pass her a confused but worried look.
She ran up the stairs, ignoring the burning sensation In her legs. She made it to her door and quickly opened the door before slamming it shut the leaving against it.
She took in deep breaths as she tried to calm her racing heart. Her eyes scanned her room, taking in the familiar atmosphere and surroundings.
She placed her hand on her chest before standing up and walking towards the implanted phone she had on her wall.
She knew that if there was ever one person that could believe her it would be the person she was about to dial.
She dialed her number as quickly as her shaky hands could let her and placed the phone to her ear as it began ringing, and after a few minutes, the line was picked up.
"Hello? " a sleepy voice said from the other side of the line
"H-hey Hannah, I-I know it's late but I'm really freaking out right now an-"Emilia started but the person on the other line, Hannah, cut her off.
"Hey em, deep breathes okay? Take nice deep breathes" Hannah said. Her voice was soothing, Almost like a sweet melody that could never be played wrong.
"Now tell me what happened" Hannah said from the other, after sensing that Emilia had calmed down a little.
Emilia then began telling Hannah a detailed explanation of what happened, starting from when she heard the noise in the forest, to how she ran home.
"I-I think it's coming for me" Emilia said, and judging by her tone it was clear that she was shaken up.
"Em, I'm sure there's a reasonable explanation for this" Hannah said from the other end.
"Hannah! Red eyes! How can you reasonably explain someone with red eyes" Emilia yelled suddenly, growing frustrated.
"He could have been wearing contact lenses" Hannah replied, the sleep still auditable in her tone.
"Hannah I know what I saw. You believe me... Right?" Emilia asked, her frustration turning to desperation
"Honestly em, it's your birthday, and it's been a long day with your shifts and all, so maybe you're just tired and hallucinating" Hannah tiredly said from the other line making Emilia's eyes widen.
Perhaps she really was just hallucinating, but then how would she explain the taunting voice? or those red-rubied eyes? There was just no way she could have imagined it.
"Hannah you have to believe me, I... Hello?... Hannah?... HANNAH!?" Emilia frantically yelled as she heard the ding of the phone. Signaling that someone had cut the line.
Her fingers dripped with sweat as she desperately tried to dial the number once again, but it wouldn't go through. She felt like she was losing her mind and needed some kind of reassurance. Some kind of message from the universe to tell her that this was all real and she wasn't going crazy. Something lik-
"Your time is up little human" she heard a voice that immediately sent a chill down her spine. The voice came from all the directions of the house and sounded playful yet dangerous as it called out to her.
She slowly turned and was met with the same red rubied eyes from earlier instantly sending shivers down her spine.
Thanks to the dim light she could see the creature's pale skin but couldn't see anything else other than that. Her eyes trailed down to what he was holding and it was...her telephone wire... no wonder the call had disconnected, she thought to herself.
"I thought you were smart... But then you were probably blinded by fear"The creature smiled throwing the wire to the side and taking steps toward her.
The creature kept walking forward and Emilia kept moving back until she was cornered on the wall with nowhere to run.
"I love a moving target " the creature smiled as he grabbed a lock of her hair.
