บท 3: Chapter 3 – Sudden School Start

Ars was so perplexed that he couldn't react. When he realized it, he stood among many people his age with extra limbs or horns or tails in their bodies. They were all wearing a similar black coat with differences in what they wore under the blazer and their pants or skirts.

'Huh?'

He became the center of attention of everyone because he had just appeared from a rift, taken personally by the tentacles belonging to the lord of Space and Time.

"Who is he?"

"He has black horns with white stripes… From the Eldritch family."

"They have spawn like that? And his human form is perfect."

"Scary. Let's not try to get on his bad side."

"Where are his uniforms? Or did he get a special treatment? Or is he not a student? He has the admission scroll, though. Maybe he's just late."

Hushed conversations could be heard from all directions.

Ars smiled wryly. The rift that took him to this place was gone, but he knew that he wasn't in Light Union any longer, if the people's appearance here said much.

And based on his understanding, he was inside a large hall with a podium at the end of it. The hall looked luxurious, with a balcony for the second floor surrounding the clearing. Chandeliers were hanging on the ceiling, the candles were lit by blue flames, giving a cold atmosphere.

No matter how he looked at it, he was inside a school, just as his father said before he was pulled inside the rift.

'Damn.' Ars cursed in his mind, maintaining his poker face outside because he didn't know the current situation. 'That old man was just… Haa, I am no longer surprised by his whim, but this is just too much. Starting school as soon as I arrived. What could be worse?'

People said your mouth was your tiger. One shouldn't carelessly say something they didn't want to happen or it would haunt you later.

And in this world where Gods were real and superstition often came true, this quote was put on the internet at the first rank of something that should be remembered and adhered to if one wanted a smooth sailing life.

Clack! Clack! Clack!

When a sound of wood clacking was heard from the podium, the blue flames on the tip of the candles burned intensely. They became brighter and everyone cheered.

"Miss Blanche!"

"Oooh! Student Council President! The most cruel and youngest cold fire Devil in Dark Union!"

"Miss Blanche! Look at me."

A beautiful student appeared from beyond the curtain. Her golden hair and dark coat with fur around the collar swayed as she walked to the podium. Everyone was charmed by her appearance, which looked oddly similar to humans with perfect curves in the right place.

Even Ars felt a little bit surprised by her beauty. It was inhuman. If only she lived in Light Union, becoming an idol or a celebrity would be easy just by relying on her look alone.

'Damn. Now that I noticed it, isn't everyone here good looking? Is it their real appearance or just their disguise? I can't really tell. Dark Union's stuff is hidden pretty well and the only thing I know are those from rumors. This is confusing. Why doesn't dad give me a head up about this?!'

Ars chose not to say anything and just observed as the opening ceremony progressed. The Student Council President, Blanche, stopped behind the podium.

At that moment, a teacher with flaming hair, literally, appeared from the side. Ars was curious whether that hair was hot or not when the teacher suddenly raised his voice.

"An opening ceremony will be held soon. Everyone, be quiet!"

His voice rang inside the hall. No one dared to speak after seeing his intense expression. The teacher nodded at Blanche and she nodded back.

"Thank you, Mr. Friedrin." Blanche said, smiling softly.

That charmed almost all the boys in the hall. But a glare from Mr. Friedrin made them avert their eyes immediately.

'Heh, boys.' Ars smirked at their familiar reaction. 'I guess Dark Union isn't that different from Light Union.'

And that reassured him. He was worried that it was a lot different from his home. Adapting to a new and strange environment was hard. But if it had a bit of similarities from his old one, he believed that he, as a human, would be able to adapt pretty easily.

Once again, that was his wishful thinking. Because he was made aware that this wasn't a normal school just a few seconds later.

"New students, welcome to Doom Spreader School."

Blanche started, spreading her arms. Her lips curled up, perfectly resembling a crescent moon, just like her eyes.

'Doom Spreader School?!' Ars's eyes widened. This time, he couldn't control his surprise. 'Shit, what kind of school do I join? This is bad. Real bad. What did my old man think, registering me in this school?'

Even so, he couldn't run. So he listened to gather information.

"I know that all of you are happy to be accepted to this school. Who wouldn't? Every high class Devils, Demons, Spirits, Faekin, Beastkin, and even the honorable Eldritch Family members joined and graduated from this school."

Excitement burst out from her speech. Everyone grinned like her.

"We will learn how to live a daily life here. Learning how to interact with others, pursuing education. We are students, and I, just like you, am a student too. Let's learn education in this beautiful school of ours."

"Yes!"

"Miss Blanche! I will learn a lot!"

"As a student, I will pursue education seriously!"

After hearing the speech and the other students' shout, Ars sighed in relief. It seemed like only the school name was strange. They had indeed pursued education seriously.

'Thanks God. I believe they just have a peculiar naming sense that's different from me. We just have a different culture.' He thought, smiling softly.

"Speaking of education and our Dark Union important family, I believe that we have to hear one lucky new student speech to spark your newfound energy in this new environment. Let's see…"

Blanche's eyes swiped over the students and stopped at Ars. When their gazes met, Ars couldn't help but feel a shiver down his spine, like a centipede crawling up his back.

'Don't tell me.'

"Aha!"

Blanche's smile widened as if she had found a new toy. She snapped her fingers and a blue flame from the chandelier all moved, changing shapes into arrows that pointed at him.

"Why don't we have a student from the Eldritch Family to give us a speech? You can tell us how you torture your prisoners or something. We'd love to hear about such a good education directly from you. Please, by all means, share your daily life with us."

At that moment, Ars realized.

'Ah, so that's their so-called education and daily life.'

And his mouth moved out of instinct, answering Blanche's words. It was something he often did when he was on the edge or was too confused to say something or when he dealt with his father's strange whim.

"Is that so? Sure."
