บท 64: Anteiku
I put on my uniform and stepped out of my small apartment near the slums. I was on my way to J Highschool, a place I had never been before.
As I walked through the streets, I couldn't help but notice how peaceful the world seemed. The city was bustling with people, but in this metropolitan area, I felt practically invisible.
As I approached the school gates, I noticed a large guy standing nearby with the same uniform as mine.
'Huh…the students have a nametag..'
The guy's name was Vin Jin and as soon as he saw me, he began to taunt me. "Hey, look at this kid. He thinks he's hot stuff just because he's got a uniform on," Vin sneered.
I tried to ignore him and walk past, but Vin wasn't done yet.
"What's the matter, kid? Cat got your tongue?" he taunted, the blonde beside him was pretty much ignoring the entire show and licking a candy.
Annoyance boiled over and I turned to face Vin. "You're the one who's got something wrong with you. A fat, useless bully like you wouldn't know the first thing about being a real man," I spat out.
Vin's expression turned to fury as he lunged at me. The two of us began to fight, but it quickly became clear that I was no match for Vin's bulk and strength. The fight concluded with me being overpowered, and Vin proceeded to beat me brutally.
'Shit! I can see his moves but can't react to them.'
As I lay on the ground, bruised and bloodied, I couldn't help but feel a sense of euphoria wash over me. The blood dripping from my face made me realize just how weak I truly was, but it also made me excited at the thought of becoming stronger.
'I can grow,' thinking that, I picked myself up and limped toward the washroom.
What came out from my mouth was saliva mixed with blood and a tooth.
[I'll activate your healing factor.]
In the blink of an eye, an brand new tooth popped up.
'Neat.'

Walking into the classroom, I could feel the eyes of my fellow classmates. They were taking in my bruises and beaten-up appearance.
I could hear whispers and snickers coming from all around the room. Trying to ignore them I walked up to my assigned seat, where I sat down and waited for the teacher to arrive.
As soon as the teacher walked in, he called out the roll and when my name came up, I stood up to introduce myself.
"Hi, my name is Daniel Park. Nice to meet you all," I said, trying to sound confident.
But instead of the friendly greetings I had hoped for, my classmates burst out laughing. One of the boys called out, "Nice one, Dan. Did you get lost on your way to the gym?"
[Ignore them Eren, you're perfect.] the cheerful voice spoke out in a hurry to console me.
'Where have you been this entire time?'
[It's hard to maintain a connection with your original body]
'Oooh….can I help in any way?'
[Aww you're worried about me!]
'A little.'
[Hehe~ it's okay, after all, I'm the best ]
Sadly I couldn't keep calm any longer when the no named side character blurted out more insults.
"Looks like someone got their butt kicked by someone twice their size."
Flushed with embarrassment as the class laughed at me, I vowed to get back in shape. I could feel his anger rising, but I pushed it down and tried to focus on what the teacher was saying.
The ridicule continued throughout the day, with my classmates constantly teasing about my size and injuries.
'Fuckers.'

After class, I went back to the apartment and scoured the internet for job openings. Eventually, I found an ad for a café called "Anteiku" and decided to pay them a visit.
I approached the café, my heart pounding with anticipation.
[I thought you knew about this world's plot]
'Boy meets ghoul, becomes ghoul, character development yada yada. I skipped most of the episodes and just saw the fights.'
[….. do you at least know the name of the man character?]
'Konoka ken'
[I hope you're right about this…]
'Have I ever been wrong~'
Stepping inside I saw the owner, an old man with white hair and a tall, strong figure.
[Something is off about him]
'Shush, don't spoil me. I'll want to find it out myself.'
"Excuse me, sir. I saw your ad for a job and I was wondering if I could apply," I said, trying to sound confident.
The owner looked at me, taking in my uniform and the bruises on my face. "I don't know, kid. You look a little young and inexperienced to me," the owner replied.
[He-]
'No spoilers babe.'
[B-Babe!?]
Ignoring the blubbering mess of a companion inside my head, I focused on the old man.
I persisted, "Please, sir. I really need this job. I can work hard and I'm willing to learn. I promise I won't let you down."
The owner looked at me skeptically. "I don't know. The café business is tough and it's not a place for kids. I don't think you can handle it," the owner said, shaking his head.
'What's up with this dude?'
It felt like that wasn't the entire reason for the rejection.
Knowing I had to try harder to convince him.I took a deep breath and spoke from my heart.
"I understand your concerns, sir. But please, give me a chance. I've had a tough life so far and I'm determined to make something of myself. I may not be the strongest or the most experienced, but I'm willing to work hard and I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty. I promise, I won't let you down."
The owner looked at me for a long moment, studying my face.
'Come on, have some sympathy.'
Finally, he spoke, "Okay, kid. I'll give you a chance. But you'll have to work hard, and I'll be watching you closely. If you can't handle the pace or the pressure, I'll have to let you go."
