"Here we are again," Andrew said softly, to noone in particular.
"Another year, another Parade," Adva answered him, cheerfully. She gently ruffled his short blonde hair as she passed him by. Alec, her twin brother, followed Adva like a shadow, silently.
"I don't even know why we still do this," Alec grumbled.
"Tradition." Her cheerful disposition did not waver. "Something for the newer Reapers to actually look forward to. Its not all dismal boredom. These are our Children- let them have a little fun."
Alec looked around at the groups of laughing people, some in skullface, and sighed.
It suddenly grew quiet, and Alec looked around to see why. Dinah was standing at the edge of the clearing, arms clearly still bruised from IVs. He quickly hurried over. "You should be resting," he said in a hushed voice.
She raised an eyebrow, only half her face painted white. She wasn't a Reaper, but a SinEater. "I'm not missing the food." She replied. Besides, not many SinEaters come anymore. You guys need me." She grinned.
"What's your sugar?"
She glanced down at the numbers on her insulin pump. 356. "170," she lied.
"That's funny, because you look a little pale."
"Face paint," she grinned, again. "Where's the grill? I'm dying for a sausage."
Alec watched her scurry away, wondering if it was really a good idea for her to be here. Well, she was an adult, after all. By now, they all knew enough about diabetes in case something happened.
"Someone should keep an eye on her," Adva whispered. Alec nodded, and gestured Daemon over.
"Let me guess." Daemon ran his hands through his hair. "Watch out for Dinah."
"The two of you have a history." Adva said, gently.
"History is history," he replied. "In the past."
Adva laughed, a sweet, almost twinkling sound. "And what else do you have to do tonight? Mope around? At least this way you might get lucky, eh? Eh?"
"Jesus," Daemon mumbled, sprinting to catch up with Dinah.
"Stop trying to play matchmaker, Adva," Alec smirked. Adva shrugged.
