"hello, 0-prime. can you understand me?" "Who?!" looking around I couldn't find that voice "good, you can understand me. do you know who you are or where you came from?" [emotional index over safe levels, activating emotion lock level three] after that strange voice spoke I suddenly calmed down. "no, I do not know."
"that is unfortunate. anyway, there will be food soon." as the first voice said this the wall opened up. no, not the wall, a door. walking in a person was wearing a full suit of armour that covered every part of his body, even covering his eyes with a black piece of black glass. "are you kidding me? this is the thing that killed my sister? this thing? are you kidding? it's fucking tiny!" seeing me he seemed to be angry, why? I killed his sister? when? wait, whose memories are these? "a-alix? who is alex?" hearing that name the person in front of me was shocked "how do you know my name?!" walking up to me and holding me to a wall 'alex' began to question me.
[emotional index over safe levels, activating emotion lock level two] that voice again. and that same calm, this time stronger. "the name 'alex' is one I have in my memories. I do not know why." "alex, please let go of the specimen and leave the food." "tch, fine." dropping me he left the food on the ground before walking over to one of the corners of the room. standing and walking over I saw what looked like a large ibex.
walking over I began to eat but strangely no matter how much a ate I wasn't feeling any fuller, I was even feeling even more hungry until something changed. I felt, warm? and it wasn't just that it was getting warmer and warmer. hot, boiling hot! pain! so much pain! why!? "argh! it hurts!" slowly but surely my body began to change.
other than the unending and immense pain I felt all over my body I could feel something trying to break out of my head. no matter how much I wanted to just pass out something was stopping me from doing so. [emotional index over safe levels, activating emotion lock level one] I didn't even have time to think about the voice as the pain just kept getting worse for what felt like hours until finely it ended.
panting and out of breath on the ground, I could feel changes. I was more stable and balanced on the ground and could tell that I was faster, stronger and had more stamina. but the most eye-catching change was my new horns, while I couldn't see them I could feel my head was much heavier than before. "while that was a good show seeing you scream and all that, what the fuck just happened?" hearing alex's voice I looked up, I was so calm I almost couldn't feel my emotions. "my body adapts to what I eat and changes accordingly. while it never will harm me, I can not control the change as it is automatic" not even realising that new memories had appeared in my head I told the guard what had happened. "so you a fucking freak. good to know."
after this incident that same pattern of eat, change, wait for tomorrow and eat again continued for a few months until someone new joined the scientists, Alice. unlike the others who would look at me like a lab rat and treat me like some prized animal, she treated me like a normal person, like a human.
"hay cain, how are you doing?" looking up from where I was sleeping I saw Alice. "I'm good" somehow, when I was with Alice I could feel more emotion than before. "why do you call me cain and not 0-prime like the others." hearing my question she pulled out a photo, there were two people in the photo, a young boy who had bright blond hair who was smiling while poking out from behind of a young girl who had dark black hair that was holding a shell while they where both at what my memories told me was a beach.
pointing to the boy in the photo Alice said, "he was my brother, his name was also cain. when I first came here you looked a lot like him and I felt like calling you 0-prime was wrong so I thought 'why not call him cain?' and so far you haven't said stop so ill keep calling you that" "why did you say 'was' your brother?" hearing my question alice began to form a little. "a while ago he died."
hearing the sadness in her voice I tried to think of how to continue. following what I heard from the guards speaking outside and my memories I said "I'm sorry for your loss." looking back up at me from the photo she smiled and said "its fine. enough of depressing stories, how about I tell you about something from the old ages." "the old ages? what are those?"
"the old ages are what we call the time before man walked the stars and we could use mana. in the old ages, we only lived on a planet called 'earth' and weren't united like we are today. but enough about that. back on earth, we would worship and prey to powerful beings called 'gods', the god that most knew about was from the Christian religion which was the most widespread. most just called him god but the older texts said his name was 'Yahweh'. how about every time I see you I tell you about some of the stories from that religion?" relising that I could talk to slice more if I said yes I naturally agreed "that would be nice." soon the pattern of seeing alice and hearing the stories of all the old worlds religions, as she would get bored of telling the same one for long, eating and getting used to the new changes i would undergo every day continued for a while until disaster struck
