Third Arc (Fallen Heart) - 331. Royal Protocol

Angel and Rose cleaned themselves up, dressed for the day, and went for breakfast. By the time they made their way to the dining hall, it was late for breakfast, and Angel's schedule had already begun to shift, the routine slightly thrown off. Still, it was manageable. Angel didn't have any pressing meetings that morning, just his usual duties.

They ate. Their demeanor remained composed, unbothered by the night they had shared. Despite the intimacy they had experienced the night before, Angel and Rose maintained their usual calm and reserved public personas. Their relationship might have deepened, but they were both royals, raised in strict etiquette, where emotions were rarely shown openly. There were no lingering touches, no exchanged glances filled with hidden meaning. They simply carried on as they always did according to royal protocol.

For others, it might have seemed cold or distant, but for them, it was a habit. The consummation of their marriage was a personal matter, something sacred to them, but it didn't need to be broadcast to the world.

After breakfast, Angel and Rose walked down one of the long corridors of the palace. Angel was headed to his study. He had a few matters to review, paperwork that had been piling up. It wasn't urgent, but it required attention. Rose was about to bid him farewell, heading to her own duties, when Sarah, the head housekeeper, and some maids in tow approached them from down the hall.

"Your Majesty, Princess Rose," Sarah greeted, bowing deeply as they approached. He turned toward her, noticing an unusual seriousness in her expression.

"Sarah," Angel acknowledged, raising an eyebrow. "Is something wrong?"

Sarah hesitated for a moment, her eyes flicking between Angel and Rose. "Forgive me, Your Majesty," she said carefully, "but I was hoping to speak with you in private. It's an urgent matter."

Angel frowned, a subtle crease forming on his forehead. It wasn't like Sarah to request private meetings, especially during working hours. She was meticulous in her role as head housekeeper, ensuring the palace ran smoothly without unnecessary interruptions. If she was asking for a private word, something was indeed amiss.

Angel glanced at Rose, who nodded in silent agreement. "Go ahead," she said, her voice gentle but understanding. "I'll see you later."

Angel returned the nod before turning back to Sarah. "Very well. Let's go to my study."

With a small gesture, he indicated for Sarah to follow him. They walked the short distance in silence.

They entered the study, and Angel closed the door behind them. He expected something concerning the palace operations or perhaps a more serious matter related to security. As he walked toward his work desk, Cley, who was already seated behind a pile of documents, greeted him.

"Morning, Your Majesty," Cley said, half-rising from his chair out of respect.

Angel waved his hand dismissively, signaling that Cley didn't need to stand, not breaking his stride as he moved to his desk. He wanted to get to the point quickly.

Once seated, Angel turned his attention to Sarah. His gaze was sharp. "What do you want to talk about?" he asked, cutting straight to the point, his tone firm and authoritative.

Sarah hesitated. Her eyes flicked toward Cley for a moment. It was clear she was uncomfortable, but Angel's sharp gaze told her there was no point in stalling. She knew that Cley could be trusted; as one of Angel's most loyal aides. After a moment of deliberation, she finally spoke, her voice lower than usual.

"Your Majesty… last night, you and Princess Rose consummate your marriage, correct?" she began cautiously.

Cley, who had been shuffling papers, perked up immediately at the mention of such a personal topic. His ears sharpened, and although he kept his head low, it was clear from his posture that he was suddenly paying very close attention. The prospect of getting some juicy gossip about Angel's private life was too tempting to ignore.

Angel, on the other hand, remained silent, his expression stony and unreadable. His mind quickly ran through the events of the previous night and that morning, realizing he had overlooked something significant. 'Ah, of course. Rose's virgin blood.' He internally grimaced. 'I forgot to clean that up.'

Sarah, unaware of Angel's internal thoughts, pressed on. "This morning, when we went to clean up your chambers, we found blood on the sheets. Quite a lot, as if…" she hesitated for a second, then continued bluntly, "as if it was the first time you had been together. You need to do it more gently next time."
