บท 4: Chapter 4: Can I Be Clark’s Godfather?

"I just stuck the fork in his neck, after that, I don't know what happened."

At the Smallville Police Station, Peter said to the third officer interrogating him.

He had already repeated the same thing countless times.

"We retrieved the supermarket's surveillance footage and got witness statements. They said you were facing off with that guy," said a burly white officer, slamming the report onto the table with a loud bang.

"Don't try to lie, cowboy. I know you're a troublemaker."

Peter leaned forward slightly. "It was self-defense, officer. I took down the gunman and saved people. I should be respected and praised for that—why am I being interrogated like a criminal?"

He already knew that the supermarket robber had shot out all the security cameras.

So, he was 100% certain the footage didn't capture anything he did with Azu.

Besides, he had already rehearsed his testimony with the only witness—Martha.

As for Azu's situation, the system had already provided him with legal adoption papers, so he wasn't afraid of any investigation.

Just as the white officer was left speechless by Peter's question, a knock suddenly came from the interrogation room door.

A female officer stood outside and said, "Sir, they've arrived."

The white officer nodded and quickly walked out of the interrogation room.

A few minutes later, he returned.

"You can go."

He stepped forward to unlock Peter's handcuffs but warned him, "But don't leave town. We'll call you in for questioning anytime."

"Thank you."

Peter calmly thanked him.

As he walked out of the interrogation room, Martha, who was anxiously waiting while holding Azu, quickly rushed over.

"Oh my God! Are you alright?"

"I'm fine."

Peter took Azu from Martha's arms.

Little Azu, his cheeks flushed, seemed to have recovered from the earlier "T-Rex" incident.

He was happily playing with his new toy in his hand.

"I'm Jonathan Kent."

The man next to Martha extended his hand to Peter, "Thank you so much, Mr. Podrick."

Martha's husband, Jonathan, thanked Peter sincerely.

He had already learned the whole story from his wife.

Although he was half-doubtful about her claim that a baby shot lasers from his eyes to cut the robber in half, he was genuinely grateful to Peter for saving his wife and son.

"No problem. Actually, I really like Clark."

Peter shrugged.

After exchanging a few words, Jonathan invited Peter to their home, and Peter didn't refuse, getting into the car with the couple.

As the car sped along, Peter slowly clenched his fist, feeling the changes happening in his body.

It seemed his strength had increased significantly, and his vision and senses had become much sharper.

The scenery flashing by outside the window started to slow down, almost coming to a halt under his focused gaze.

He stared at the wristwatch on his left hand.

When he took down the gunman in the supermarket, he thought it was just adrenaline fueling his burst of power.

But now, it seemed it wasn't that simple.

Even with an adrenaline rush, there was no way he could so accurately and forcefully plunge the fork into the man's neck.

Was it the watch that had given him this strength?

As he pondered, the car left the town center and headed towards Kent Farm.

Tall trees lined the road on both sides, the dark and damp bark of the oaks wrapping them like silent, stern sentinels.

Twenty minutes later.

"We're here."

The car stopped in front of a farm.

Jonathan opened the car door and introduced, "This is our farm."

Martha helped Peter carry Azu out of the car. "Jonathan's family has lived on this farm since his grandfather's time. He inherited it and gave up his university life for it."

"You always have to make choices in life, right? At least I got you and Clark. If I'd left the farm, we never would've met."

"You always have your reasons, Jonathan."

Martha suddenly smacked her forehead. "Oh no, I left Clark with Nell and forgot to pick him up!"

She handed Azu to Peter. "Sorry, I have to go to Nell's."

Watching his wife rush off in a hurry, Jonathan smiled at Peter, "Even after getting married, Martha can still be a bit forgetful."

"She's wonderful," Peter told Jonathan. "A good mother."

This wasn't just flattery—future Superman didn't turn out wrong, thanks to Martha's guidance.

If Clark had ended up with bad parents, he might have become someone like Homelander.

"Yes, Martha is a great mother and wife," Jonathan said happily.

That night, Martha and Jonathan prepared a hearty dinner for Peter.

"So, you really don't know who John's mother is?"

Putting down her utensils, Martha asked Peter in surprise.

"Yes, he's adopted. I've never been married."

Peter lied without batting an eye.

Martha turned to look at Azu, who was playing on the floor with Clark.

She recalled finding Clark on the farm with her husband last month.

"In the supermarket earlier, he…"

Martha hesitated, unsure how to phrase the question.

"That's his talent," Peter said, taking a bite of the beef stew. "I only recently discovered it—John has unusual talents. When he's angry, he can unleash incredible power."

Martha nodded, looking at Azu crawling on the floor. "At the police station, they kept asking me about the scene. I told them I closed my eyes out of fear…"

She murmured softly, "Even if I told them the truth, who would believe it?"

Listening to his wife, Jonathan furrowed his brow.

Comparing the spaceship that brought Clark to their farm with the unusual abilities of both children, a ridiculous thought suddenly crossed his mind.

Could John have also come from a spaceship?

What's his connection to Clark?

"I hope you can keep this a secret, for John's sake."

Peter's words interrupted Jonathan's thoughts.

"Of course," Jonathan nodded repeatedly, snapping out of his daze.

After thanking the couple, Peter walked over to the two babies and picked up Clark. "Actually, I think Clark has more potential."

Taking advantage of the moment, Peter suggested becoming Clark's godfather.

To avoid potential trouble from future Homelander-like behavior, Peter decided to establish a connection early.

If things ever went south, having Clark as his godson could come in handy.

When Peter mentioned wanting to be Clark's godfather, the couple exchanged a glance.

"Of course, no problem at all," Martha immediately said.

For the man who had saved her life, she thought it was only fitting for Peter to be Clark's godfather.

And suddenly, Clark, in Peter's arms, muttered an unclear word:

"Daddy!"
