Chapter 55: First Comission

"50 pounds," Meursault replied coldly.

"… I'm sorry, I cannot accept the mission." Klein was startled for two seconds but in the end, he still chose to reject the request.

Meursault studied him slowly for a few seconds as his eyes slowly turned cold and fierce.

He didn't offer a new price, nor did he politely bid farewell. He turned around abruptly and walked quickly to the end of the street.

After he disappeared, someone jumped from the roof and landed in front of Klein, almost giving him a heart attack.

"Do you need me to take care of that guy? He doesn't seem to have good intentions." William asked with a smile.

After recovering from the shock, Klein paled.

"Damn, William, they can't see us together or someone might connect the dots, I told you not to contact me." Klein scolded him.

William shook his head.

"Don't worry, I made sure no one followed me. I have something important this time, you need to know." He now became serious. "I was contacted by an Angel from the Aurora Order. Several things happened and I joined them."

Klein looked at him dumbfounded.

"You've gone mad?"

William shook his head again.

"At the moment, no. I don't trust them at all, but something tells me that this is the best option for now, True Creator is more mentally stable than the vast majority of people believe." He revealed. "However, this was only something secondary that I wanted to tell you, the main thing is related to the Demoness Sect."

Klein narrowed his eyes, this sudden high-level talk taking him by surprise. He invited William into his house so they could talk more comfortably.

"I remember that during our time in Tingen, you fell out with Theosophy Order, has it escalated to the next level?" Klein poured black tea for both of them.

"That's right, this time they sent a Demigod." William drank calmly from the cup and looked directly at his fellow transmigrator. "He attacked me while I was sleeping, and I live just a few minutes away from Saint Samuel's Cathedral. Do you understand what that means?"

Of course, Klein was extremely intelligent, he had no problem deciphering what William was trying to tell him.

"She was confident that she would be able to escape even after killing you. But it's hard to get in and out of Backlund if you're being hunted."

William nodded.

"I suspect that they are plotting something big in the city, there are probably several high-sequence Beyonders from Demoness Sect in Backlund right now."

William was not a genius, but after going through so many dangerous situations, he had developed some experience in detecting them. His instincts screamed at him that something was brewing in the depths of the Land of Hope, and to a Beyonder, his instincts were the most precious thing.

Klein also felt a chill run down his spine. Would it be too egocentric to say that bad fortune followed him? He had not even been in this world for half a year and was already involved in situations with Demigods.

Both transmigrators let out a sigh at the same time. Why couldn't they have been reborn in some normal fantasy world without emerging psychopathic madmen and insanity?

"By the way, how did you find me?" Klein asked.

William pulled out a newspaper clipping advertising the services of a private detective named Sherlock Moriarty.

"You're not ashamed, you're starting to act like Roselle." He scoffed as he shamelessly pointed out the name.

Klein felt dizzy and realized that this was not much different from social death. He decided to avoid telling William about the Tarot Club at all costs, otherwise he would have no choice but to commit seppuku.

They chatted for a while longer until they finished the tea. Then, Klein told William that he had to leave on some business, so they said goodbye and each went on their way.

Although William only pretended that he was leaving.

That same night, as he guessed, Klein was attacked.

...

Almost instinctively, Klein bent his knees and rolled sideways toward the bathroom door.

A small black-feathered arrow stabbed into the wash basin. The arrow seemed to be made of bone and suffused a blue luster. It was extremely beautiful.

If Klein had hesitated in any way, he definitely wouldn't have been able to escape this sudden attack!

After rolling for a moment, Klein reached into his pocket and attempted to pull out a few tarot cards.

But at that moment, he felt a gust of wind engulf him. Through the corner of his eyes, he saw a black figure quickly closing in on him at high speeds. It appeared in front of him in an extraordinary pose, as he tightened his foot and kicked out from bottom to top.

Realizing that he couldn't avoid the attack, Klein quickly gave up on his previous intentions and used his elbow to block the attack.

With a bang, he felt his entire left arm go numb, and his body was yanked over, just like in the sport squash, which the middle class loved to play the most, or like a soccer ball that was now popular among the lower class.

What immense strength! Klein's heart tightened. Without being flustered, he adjusted his body in midair and changed his posture, barely maintaining his balance as if he were performing acrobatics.

Pa! Pa! Pa… At this moment, a tree-bark-colored blow-pipe had just landed on the floor of the bathroom and bounced behind the door, at a declining speed.

Just as Klein was about to stretch out his body to firmly stand and face the follow-up attack, a scene suddenly flashed in his mind.

The speed of the enemy in black far exceeded his expectations, arriving even faster than he had expected. He lowered his body and swung his arm, striking him in the chest.

In the blink of an eye, Klein's body bent over, spinning half a circle more, like a small ball that kept falling and kept being thrown around.

He stretched out his hand and pressed it to the ground, opening his legs like scissors while keeping his head low. It made black-clothed man's fist miss as it tore through empty space.

The fist that was originally aimed at his chest could only hit his legs after Klein turned his body, but his legs were opened wide.

Pushing up, his legs closed in together, allowing Klein to leap nimbly to the side as he finally managed to stand up straight.

Before he had the chance to observe his enemy, the black figure had already arrived in front of him, bringing with it a strong gust of wind.

At that moment, there was a crash and something broke through the ceiling.

BANG!

William did not hold back, his momentum cracked the ground and he seemed to become a cannonball.

Meursault, of course, was not fast enough to even try to avoid the Comet before his entire abdomen was blown to pieces.

"First commission accomplished." William murmured, then sheathed Debris and looked at Klein. "I'll leave the rest to you."

-------------------------

Yes, Klein's battle against Meursault was copied from original novel, too tired to rewrite that sorry, hope you don't mind.
