บท 28: Lovestruck Gaze
"Fuck. You really are an immortal mortal!" Flav cursed as the golden light and Qi dispersed, sucking away all the Qi into Xuan Li's body.
Dumdum stared at him indifferently, "we told you. But, you didn't believe it."
"How can I believe something like this," Flav fired back. "If someone who claimed to be a mortal and told you that he is unkillable, would you believe him?"
"Of course not!" Dumdum knew Flav's feelings all too well. He had to suffer countless hardships and tribulations to become strong enough while Xuan Li could cultivate without worry because he couldn't die. It was unfair and frustrating and the fact that instead of doing that Li searched for ways to die made him develop a small enmity towards him.
Hearing the frustration in Dumdum's voice Flav shut up and focused on the ground where Li was starting to arouse. He looked at him for a couple of seconds before muttering, "forget it. I give up."
Li's ears perked up after he heard what Flav said and got up. With dissapointed and clenched fists he screamed, "what do you mean give up?! You almost killed me!"
When people usually say this enmity follows their voices but Xuan Li was only grateful and disappointed. 'I could have met grandpa if he succeeded.'
'This crazy guy. Even after I gave up on taking his pet and whatever treasures he has!?' Flav's eyes started glimmering with a violent light. He raised his fist about to punch Xuan Li again when he thought, 'wait. That's exactly what this crazy bastard wants. Fine, then I won't do as you want!' With that Flav released some murky breath and lowered his hand.
Xuan Li saw that his plan to rouse Flav failed and complained inwardly. "How about we make a deal?" He tried to entice him again. Yet before he could start speaking, faint sounds of footsteps took away the attention of the three.
Xuan Li and Dumdum immediately recognized the newcomer leaving Flav the only one who didn't know her.
Iris neared the sound she heard without trying to hide. When she got closer she heard two men arguing and she felt like she heard one of the voices speaking before. When she came closer she found Dumdum, Flav, and Xuan Li. Once her eyes made out his figure the feeling she felt before returned.
'Damn it. Did I have to see him again? This body's previous owner really loved this guy.' Iris thought with annoyance clearly conveyed on her face. Though it was too far for the others to see that.
"Hey, you human bastard. Isn't that the woman who dueled you in town?" Dumdum asked already knowing it was her. "Did she perhaps follow you here?" He tried stirring some trouble to make the situation more fun.
Xuan Li had gotten used to Dumdum's personality and knew that said that to rile him up. Still, he was also suspicious of finding iris here. Was it really a coincidence? He started to doubt.
Seeing that everyone spotted each other Iris neared the group only to see eyes of suspicion coming from Xuan Li, amusement clearly showing in Dumdum's, and… a lovestruck gaze coming from the unknown third party?
Iris sighed while thinking, 'first those five hooligans and now this?' Still she decided to speak as they might be here for the same reason as her. They might even have some clues regarding the first trial for joining Ascension Academy.
Iris took the initiative to speak trying to ignore the constant annoying feeling in her chest. "Are you also here looking for clues for the Ascension Academy's first trial?"
Dumdum and Xuan Li were surprised and then remembered that Flav said he was going to join the Ascension Academy. Was the place he took them connected to it? Is that why he chose this place?
When Iris spoke Flav regained his composure and wiped the lovestruck gaze he was staring at her with, he was surprised someone else knew about this clue that led to the first trial. It was true that he knew about it which is why he came to check this for the location. That way he could kill Xuan Li and maybe even find the trial's location killing two birds with one stone.
Since the secret was out, Flav decided to test something. "The way to Ascension is where the moon and sun meet. In that place when the purple shadow covers the sky only then will the first trial appear!"
With that Iris confirmed that Flav knew about this clue. It was the same clue Charles gave her. She figured that Flav said it to see if she recognized it and seeing that it might give her other clues she spoke, "so you have this clue too."
"It's weird for two people to have the same clue. I heard that the hints to the first trials of the Ascension Academy are different for everyone. There shouldn't be two people with the same information." Flav gave voice to his doubts.
Seeing that Flav was honest with her she decided to treat him the same way. While scratching her head in embarrassment she revealed, "actually I got this clue from an acquaintance not the hard way like you!"
Finally knowing why Iris was embarrassed Flav nodded his head. He had to work hard to find this clue while she got it from an acquaintance, although it seemed unfair he didn't care. Someone who could give clues about the Ascension Academy's trials wouldn't be someone ordinary and for Iris to know him meant that she herself wasn't an ordinary person.
Finding a chance to meet someone like that, Flav introduced himself. "I'm Flav. A Qi Manifestation stage Martial Artist." It was the same introduction he gave Xuan Li but his tone and actions were more polite facing Iris. "If you don't mind me asking, could you tell me your name lady?"
Iris shrugged seeing no problem with that, "I am Irisine. Irisine Knight."
Flav shook her hand after the introduction. They began talking about the clue they have to see if they had the same assumptions and to limit the search area.
"Hey human bastard, is it just me or are we being ignored?" Dumdum asked expressionlessly despite seething inside. He didn't like being ignored and it annoyed him that two humans were doing it.
"No, my dear Dumdum." Xuan Li replied rather calmly. "We aren't being ignored because we are forgotten!" He didn't care. Although he felt offended slightly as long as he found a way to die he didn't care about other things.
Still, seeing Irisine and Flav talking about the Ascension Academy, his next destination prompted him to cut in on their discussion. "Hey you two. Did you find the location of the first trial?"
Flav and Iris who were in their own world finally paid attention to Xuan Li. Flav had already laid to bed his enmity and the small greed he had for Xuan Li and his things and decided to include him in the conversation.
"I don't mind telling you as long as lady Knight agrees," Flav said before glancing at Iris.
Seeing Flav do that, Xuan Li and Dumdum also concentrated their gazes on Iris, it was in her hands now whether Xuan Li gets to know or not.
Seeing that Flav burdened her with this she was about to decline when she remembered that she had introduced herself with the original owner's name yet Xuan Li didn't react. This made her curious as she was sure that the man in front of her was 'him.' Then why didn't he react or appear to recognize her.
To satiate her curiosity Iris decided, "we will tell you. But shouldn't you introduce yourself first?" She wanted to confirm her suspicion.
