I studied the mark in the mirror and traced it with my fingers over and over again. It looked like a dragon tattoo burned into my skin. It made no sense to me that he chose to brand me to him when he barely knew me.

All he saw was a pretty face and decided he wanted to own me. My fingers trembled as I finally dropped them to my side. I knew that one day my husband would be chosen against my will, I never thought it would end up like this.

My mother would have chosen some hot shot lawyer or businessman. She would have made sure he hit all of the boxes before she allowed him near me. Even then, he wouldn’t have been able to touch me until our wedding night.
