บท 76: Cement plant (13)

On the other hand, the workers who were holding the ropes, huffed. Their chests were moving up and down in a quick motion but they couldn't hide their relaxed looks as they sighed softly because one end of the H beam had been installed into its horizontal trench even if it didn't went in wholly as required, this little insertion into the trench had managed to decrease some weight of the H beam.

"This was expected. We will have to push the H beam on the other end." The fastener said to his colleague who nodded his head and they stopped pushing. Together, the two fasteners stepped onto the railing that was connected across the wall of the undercutting and onto the railing that they had been standing on before.

These workers were not tense because they were the ones who fixed these railings thus, they were not jittered just because they were walking on a dangerous path.

Quickly, the two workers, walked on the 30 metres long railing and reached the west side of the waterfall, here, they griped the end of the H beam that had brought about this slanting and they they pulled it slowly towards the trench on that side and then they pushed the H beam Eastwards but it didn't budge because of its heaviness which forced the workers to tie this end in place before they went back to the Eastern side and continued with the pushing until this end of the H beam filled into the measured trench, this made it easy for the workers to finish inserting the other end of the H beam into the horizontal trench on the west side.

"We did it! Hurray!" The workers who had been struggling to pull the H beam in place screamed in joy after they felt the weigh of the H beam nullified but they didn't release their grips from the ropes, they only relaxed because it was now time to do the fastening, the installation had not ended thus, these worker were not allowed to let go of the ropes.

Virtya smiled under the darkness and the drizzle but no one could see this smile because the top hat was veiling it, not to mention that it was now completely nightfall but Virtya was not planning to eat supper before he had finished installing the whole mechanism. His obstinacy amazed many workers and it encouraged them to work hard. No worker on the site had stopped doing their part, the ones who were constructing the main plant were doing so and the ones who were fetching the raw materials had not stopped.

Torches were lit everywhere but because it was raining, not to mention that a cold breeze was brushing now and then, the torches had to be installed in the buildings like in the wooden warehouse where Virtya was operating from and if they were to be installed outside, then a shelter had to be built so that the drizzle would not extinguish it.

The spanners and the nuts and bolts were let down using the pulley and the fasteners used the nuts to fasten this H beam that lied horizontally onto the undercutting. The H beam was fastened upon the steel plates that were installed into the wall of the undercutting beforehand.

One should know that these steel plates were held firmly onto the undercutting because gypsum was used to hold them in place. Even if the gypsum applied had yet to dry up,Virtya was sure that it would dry up with time.

The workers were using a torch to illuminate their surroundings, they walked with a charcoal stove with them so that they could lit the torch each time it was extinguished by the breeze brought by the waterfall. The undercutting was caved in, thus, the waters from the waterfall and the drizzle could not drop onto their torch, they were only peeved by a few nuisances of the water droplets brought by the cold breeze.

After an hour, the fasteners had already finished their part and they were now climbing up. They appeared and reported their success thus allowing the other workers who were still holding the ropes to now release their grips and rest.

The assassin among these workers knitted his brows because for all that time, he had yet to find an opportune moment to kill Virtya, even in this darkness, the knights around Virtya were totally vigilant and his security was upped especially at this dangerous hours of the dark.

One would have thought that the vigilant knights were careless and useless because they were walking back and forth at where Virtya was without a hurry as if they were not serious with what they were doing but that carelessness was an unbreakable formation that the assassin found it difficult to breach. Furthermore, the person who was giving the assassin goosebumps was Tanya who never left Virtya's side. She still stood close to him with a detached air and a cold look. She was drenched just like Virtya but she was indifferent about it. When one stared closely at the sleeves of her drenched coat, they would see an outline of a dagger appearing, she was always ready to stab anyone unknown that dared to come close to Virtya.

"I will just have to try and look for a gap in their formation or if that girl is not around and that will be the time that I will make my move." The assassin said this internally. He was not intimidated or hopeless but the difficulty of this job was what made him exited and he wanted so much to kill Virtya.
