Jin's hands were relentless as he fired his gun. The repeated gunshots echoed throughout the second floor of Zhongyuan Apartment, Pudong New Area District, Shanghai City.
The once-quiet hallway was now filled with the deafening sounds of human screams and bat screeches. The marble white tiled floor was drenched, forming pools of blood, and many disorganized corpses were stacked along its length.
Several human limbs were scattered and thrown every time the guns fired, blasting blood that stained the walls and even the ceiling.
At the end of the corridor stood Jin, directly facing the sunlight streaming in from the big windows.
His slit pupils constantly tracked the incoming lunging shadows of attacks that screamed at him.
BAM!
Suddenly, a spark of fire erupted from the shotgun he held with both hands, and the loud clanking sound of a shotgun shell dropping was heard simultaneously.
[You have successfully killed a Tier 0 - Level 0 Blood Slaves!]
Following the game screen notification that flashed before his eyes and disappeared, Jin swiftly and steadily reloaded his shotgun with a new shell.
"GRR!" a hoarse, raspy voice shouted at him, along with a pair of red eyes emitting an intense bloodlust.
Another blurry figure of shadow lunged forward, but as it made contact with the sunlight, a magical white fire suddenly lit up and burst through its body.
Jin took a small step backward, steadied his position, and aimed directly at the incoming target. Without hesitation or even blinking, he pulled the trigger.
[You have successfully killed a Tier 0 - Level 0 Blood Slave!]
Another game screen flashed in his view. The blue striped vest he wore was now stained with another layer of blood.
However, despite successfully killing the blood slaves one by one, his slit pupils never stopped focusing on the huge, ominous figure on his back, watching him from the ceiling of the corridor.
"Young man Jin, help me!" a cry for help suddenly resounded amidst the black mass in front of him.
At the pleas for help, Jin gritted his teeth and hissed in annoyance. "They're too cunning! And these people are even more foolish than monsters!" he exclaimed.
He had already killed more than twenty Blood Slaves, yet they kept coming. The corridor was filled with a black mass, especially the part where the sunlight couldn't reach.
It was full of Blood Slaves, and the old man who had just opened the door was screaming amidst the chaos.
Jin couldn't blame the old man due to his age, but at least he should have had some awareness! His eyebrows furrowed deeper as his visible veins protruded.
He looked annoyed as he watched the evolved bats doing mid-flight near the ceiling, as if trying to provoke him.
BAM!
[You have successfully killed a Tier 0 - Level 0 Blood Slave!]
Another shot was fired. Unlike those monstrous bats, these Blood Slaves swarmed at him like moths to a flame.
The piles of bodies were slowly creating a temporary path for the monstrous bats to advance.
The burning holy fire from the sun, which was currently burning the remaining blood and bodies, seemed to have little effect on the Monstrous bats.
In addition, the burning holy fire couldn't keep up with the increasing body count as it rose each time.
BAM! BAM! BAM!
The sound of shotgun fire echoed again and again. Jin's hands and focus were busy handling and killing the Blood Slaves that suddenly became more aggressive.
"GRR!" One of them suddenly used the wall to bounce and lunged from his side.
But Jin, with his complete focus and terrain advantage, saw through this sneak attack as if it were clear water under the shining sun!
BAM!
His barrel precisely aimed at the head of the incoming Blood Slave, blasting with a burst of blood that stained his eyeballs and vision red.
But Jin didn't even blink as he casually wiped the blood away, his swift hands moving quickly to unload the empty shotgun shell and replace it with a new one.
ROAR!
As he reloaded, the sound of a roaring lion echoed in the corridor, followed by a small tremble. His heart sank as his instincts constantly warned him of impending danger, like an alarm bell!
"ROAR!" Accompanied by another roar, the mass of Blood Slaves that were scattering and blocking the corridor suddenly were thrown away like rag dolls.
Those Blood Slaves looked so vulnerable, as many of them were being trampled by something big.
CLICK!
With a clicking sound, Jin's swift and steady hands, which had just finished reloading his shotgun, instantly aimed the barrel at the incoming danger.
His slit pupils shrank and a cold glint flashed in his eyes. The murderous aura emitted from his body, and his grip on his shotgun tightened.
He raised the shotgun until it was at shoulder level, patiently waiting for the perfect moment.
Emerging from the mass of blackness, where the light could not penetrate, were those red pair of eyes, which shone brightly. A gigantic creature, tall as 2 meters and spreading giant membranous wings, appeared.
BAM!
The gunshot sounded from the overheating barrel. It traveled and pierced through the creature who had just emerged from the darkness and made direct contact with the sunlight.
"ROAR!" The creature, having been shot in the face, did not blast apart like the Blood Slaves. Instead, a deafening and thunderous roar emanated from its bloody mouth. Its pair of red eyes glared at Jin, who was in clear view of the creature.
It was the Giant Golden-Crowned Flying Fox, and its sharp, pointed mouth was nowhere to be found, replaced by blood flowing from where the mouth should have been – especially from the shotgun shell holes.
This creature was the one that attacked him on the emergency stairs. But that was not what shocked Jin. Instead...
STOMP!
The moment the creature's body was bathed in the warm, holy light of the sun, the burning holy fire that should have been deadly to nocturnal creatures had no effect on the Giant Golden-Crowned Flying Fox.
"No, it's trying to endure it," Jin concluded. However, they were only 3 meters away from each other, and this gigantic bat seemed to have no intention of stopping.
As the gigantic bats marched towards him, Jin realized he didn't have enough time to reload the shotgun, and the barrel was already overheating.
Gripping tightly, he immediately assumed a defensive stance and dropped the shotgun to the ground. He rooted his feet to the floor, putting all his strength into his hands and feet.
As the bats acted as a shield for the rows of Blood Slaves marching behind them, Jin braced himself, unaware of the enemies behind the wings due to the narrow corridor.
The two sides collided with a crash, as the bats used their massive wings to push Jin and their sharp teeth to try to bite him.
BANG!
The sharp bones protruding from the gigantic membrane wings were causing the ceiling to crack and trail.
This helped the strength of the giant bat as it pushed Jin, embedding his feet into the floor and causing him to bleed over the marble shards.
Jin, amidst trying to stop and hold the bat, letting it be roasted alive, suddenly coughed up a mouthful of blood.
His bloodshot eyes immediately put all his strength into embedding his two hands into the body of the bat, gripping its organs tightly.
The twitching and alive sensation on his palms felt weird. But just as he was about to crush it, what he didn't expect was a bite coming from below, ripping off his tight flesh.
"Damned pests!" Jin cursed as he looked down to find one of the Blood Slaves sticking its long fangs into his flesh, slowly skinning it.
[Your body has been injured by the Blood Slaves and infected by an unknown parasite!]
[Your wounds have been healed!]
[Your body has been injured by the Blood Slaves and infected by an unknown parasite!]
[Your wounds have been healed!]
[Your body is about to become vampirized!]
[The parasite is influencing your mind!]
Several notifications suddenly flashed in Jin's mind. He immediately crushed the giant bat's organs in his hands with a loud roar.
His pupils shrank and slit, and he felt an immense power bestowed upon his body. His mind was overcome with animal instinct, and everything in his vision was tinted red.
"ROAR!" A roar suddenly resounded, but it didn't come from the giant bat; it came from Jin's mouth, which was already dripping with blood, flesh, and fur as he bit into the vital parts of the creature.
Emerging from the pile of flesh, Jin still had his consciousness, and just as he wanted to slap the Blood Slaves that bit his thigh, his back suddenly came into contact with the warming and fragile glass.
Crash!
