บท 19: Luck and Magic (4)
Gwen and Max were able to get out of the restaurant without any problems as Ben held off the bounty hunters.
"Is it because I am weak, aren't I?" Gwen said as she forcefully removes the hand that Max was holding when he pulled her out of the restaurant.
"Gwen. You know it's not like that. Ben is just stressed. Since problems are occurring after one another." Max said to Gwen as he tried to claim the teenagers down as she was upset.
"That's what you said about the old lady. I am the only one that is a normal person here. You are a plumber and Ben has that stupid watch. I am the only one that is not special. A burden." Gwen said as she started to have a mental breakdown because of the insecurity.
This probably won't happen if Ben was immature and argued with her more often so that she can let out her frustration.
However Ben was accepting of everything that she said about him and didn't fight back when she is being mean to him.
When someone that you are very close to is being mean to you it is because they feel that they are not getting enough attention or respect from the other party. Gwen was not an exception.
It is not love. Not yet at least. But a similar kind of attachment that some relatives or siblings would normally have.
She thought that Ben didn't care and respect her enough so she always tries to force a reaction out of him whenever she can.
When Ben got the Omnitrix she was a little happy because she thought that her knowledge would allow her to be more helpful to Ben.
However, Grandpa Max was revealed to be a space cop and started to help Ben whenever he needs help with the Omnitrix, technologies and aliens.
Ben also didn't seem to take the Omnitrix as a plaything and started to become much more serious than his normal self so her not being able to help Ben was taking a toll on her much more than how she would feel normally if Ben was just carefree and abuse the power of the Omnitrix for personal gains.
"Gwen. Clam down first. We can talk this out when Ben finishes. Me and Ben could listen to you and help you with whatever problem that you might be feeling. After all, you two have known each other since birth and I am sure he will understand what you are feeling right now." Max said.
"Who cares if I knew him since Birth? Who cares if you consider me as your own granddaughter? After all, I am not. I am not." Gwen said as tears started to fall from her face.
"Gwen." Max tried to reach out to her but it was too late.
"I AM NOT EVEN YOUR FAMILY," Gwen said as she runs away.
Max was left speechless as one of his worst memory suddenly appears he stared at Gwen who disappeared slowly from his eyes.
The time when he also lost the love of his life to a similar experience.

Many years ago. On a desolate planet far away from Earth.
"Max. Don't leave. I love you." A pink alien woman said as she put one of her arms on a red hair man that appears to be wearing some sort of uniform.
It was Max Tennyson.
"Verdona. You know I already have a family." Max said.
"But the two of us. We loved each other. I love you." Verdona said.
"I know. I also like you. But it is impossible now. I have a family. I have responsibilities." Max said as he put Verdona's hand that was on his face away.
"Max. Don't do this. We could be together if you only say yes." Verdona said.
"One night. Please just be mine for one night and I will never appear in front of you again." Verdona said as she started to become desperate.
But Max shakes his head.
"You want a good wife that looked like an earthling just like you right? I can also do that. So, please. Just say yes." Verdona said as she transformed into a red-haired young woman.
"This isn't about your race, Values or Belives. This is about me. I am sorry. I love you but I cannot be together with you. Even for a single day." Max said as he looked Verdona in the eyes. He seemed to be sad and apologetic.
"Fine. Have it your way. I will show you that I can lead a better life than you. I will settle down on earth. Marry an earthling and leave a much better life than you." Verdona said to Max as her bitterness and jealousy started to swallow her whole.
"Verdona. Don't do this. Don't waste away your life for something as pitiful as revenge against a stupid man like me. You can do much better." Max said.
"Why do you care? You are not even my family." Verdona said as she flew away leaving Max behind he stared at her back.

MasterrThinker2003 Just a reminder Ben and Gwen are not related in this fanfiction since I am not comfortable with the romance between family members. And romance will not be focused on until both characters reach the age of 16 in the story.
