Jack’s POV

“What’s wrong?” Grace asked, her worried gaze met mine and I knew she could feel her pack-mates suffer through the pack bond. Normally being mind-linked didn’t hurt when done right. But something told me that the King wanted us to suffer and therefore had done it like this.

Bloody asshole…

“I’ve been summoned,” I said, mind-linking the rest of the pack to stand down and let me take care of it. Because if that privileged dickhead thought for a second that---

“By Cole?” Grace snarled, having already figured out what was going on. “Doesn’t that jerk know how to take a hint?” She hissed the words and slammed the glass down on the table, getting ready to stand. “I’ll---”

“Let me do this,” I cut her off, standing too. I kept my voice low in case of anyone listening – the vampires mostly – and moved closer to her, my lips almost brushing her ear. “Please?”
