"Do you know what a Space Time Continuum is?" I asked Tom, laying back on the tree.
"I told you that I was raised by a family of hunters, taught how to kill from the moment I was born, which part of it don't you understand? My father only taught me the basics, a bit of chemistry for poisons and medicines, but that's it. I don't have any knowledge of any other subjects." Tom replied.
'Such a waste of his talent.' I sighed, "Is that why he sent you to the academy?"
"Maybe, my mother died right after my birth, and my father didn't have time to look after me... I can't blame him... The life of a hunter is though." Tom looked at the starry sky while he said that.
"At least you had a father," I smiled.
"You have an uncle who is almost like your father," Tom replied, sighing at his words, "We are such an odd pair."
'I have to say, this kid has a talent, for pulling people over to his side. All they did was chat for seven hours, look at them now. They are chatting like best friends, how the hell does he do that?' Ryuk thought, questioning himself.
... Is probably what Ryuk is thinking, or else he wouldn't be quiet for so long.
Well, it was easy to turn him over to my side because, we aren't that different, I was an orphan but my uncle raised me like his own son while he had a father but wasn't given the same love as a father would. In a way, we can understand each other, since we are both practically orphans.
"But... You haven't told me what your goal is. I know that you have no reason to save the world or follow the order given to you by your mother, why are you saving the world? Don't give me a crappy reason like 'my family is a family of heroes, so I have to keep up the tradition', I know damn well that it's not the reason you are doing this." Tom said in a serious tone.
"... I don't know," I replied. " I am not doing this to save the world, I am doing this for the people living in it, because... Of those billions of sentient beings living on these planets, there are some that I wish to protect. Listen, I am not a saint, I am different from my uncle who saves people without a reason. I am someone who saves people for a reason."
Tom looked surprised when I said that. He took a few seconds to process my words and remembered something that he had forgotten. The main goal of the League of Hunters was not to kill all the metahumans or the ones whose existence threatened humanity. The main goal of the League of Hunters was to protect the people. That was the league Bruce Wayne established.
'What have we become?' Tom questioned himself. 'Ray never lied throughout our conversation, his heart rate was normal and his facial expressions didn't budge. I can't bring myself to cripple him after hearing him out. Sigh... What do I do?'
"I think you should send a message to your father, if you inform him that a new threat, bigger than me has shown up, you can buy yourself some time. Three years maybe? I can alter the timeline by then." I said.
In three years starting from now, we will reach the end of Volume Four of my novel. During that time, I needed to change the timeline entirely, altering it in such a way that wouldn't affect the world if Samuel died.
"I shall try but I can't guarantee, my father doesn't listen to me," Tom replied.
After the sunrise, we made two groups to go separate ways, although we hadn't encountered any mutants yet, it was better to be safe than sorry. Tom took John along with him saying "He is pretty smart for someone whose entire race is a bunch of idiots."
Don't ask me if it's an insult or a praise because I have no clue myself...
"So... About your friend... Is he trustworthy?" Sylvia asked, walking beside me.
"Although he is a hunter, I can guarantee that he is trustworthy," I replied.
"Why would you tell her that?!" Ryuk screamed at me.
'Ryuk... Do you know what's the best way to reveal a secret that you want someone to know?' I asked.
"Explain it to them before it creates a misunderstanding?" Ryuk asked.
'To let them hear it on purpose and then be straightforward with it.' I replied.
"You mean..." Ryuk paused his speech.
'She was awake during our conversation.' I revealed.
"All of this was a part of your plan... You sly son of a bitch." Ryuk laughed.
"Why would you trust a hunter?" Sylvia asked, trying to hide the fact that she heard our conversation at night.
"What do you think is more dangerous, a speedster who can destroy the world with five per cent of his speed after reaching A rank or an otherworlder?" I asked, "The goal of the League of Hunters is to protect the people on this planet through any means necessary. He will work with me as long as I don't plan on destroying the world."
"You both are planning to fight an otherworlder? Why didn't you tell me about it?" Sylvia asked, thinking that I didn't know that she knew.
"You didn't ask. However, don't reveal his identity to anyone else, it can be bothering," I said, she nodded to my words.
By anyone else, I meant her mother because Kryptonians and the League of Hunters have a lot of bad blood between them. Every Kryptonian was killed by the League of Hunters before they became too strong, Melissa will also die to them but, I can't let her die so soon. If she dies, Sylvia won't be the same anymore.
"I don't have a problem with him being a hunter but..." Sylvia paused her words.
"He is a big fucking racist." I completed her sentence.
