บท 87: Apples... Eugh...

I planned to leave one day later to prepare for the Doctor's arrival. I didn't know if he would be as strong as Holborn, or a pacifist. I mean the way Holborn described him... I don't think he likes violence very much, he has a no-kill rule, so that means he probably doesn't have a weapon on him all the time.

"Why did you keep so many apples in Wally's sub-space?" Ryuk asked. "You are not thinking that it's gonna keep him away, are you?"

'I would be an idiot if I didn't try,' I answered, walking into the quest hall.

The quest hall was nothing grand, it was as big as a small bar. There were two quest boards on each side of the hall and the quest reception area was directly on the opposite side of the doorway. Other than the young lady in the reception area, the hall was completely empty.

"Welcome, how may I help you today?" The young lady asked me with a kind gesture. She had short brown hair and black eyes, she wore a set of professional office clothes and had a short build.

"I would like to sign up for a B-rank quest, for the day after tomorrow. Is it possible to register for it beforehand?" I asked politely.

"Yes, would you please state the number of your party members and their aliases? I will show you the list of B-rank quests while you are at it," The lady said, scrolling through the list of quests.

"Savitar, Galactic Inquisitor, Pretentious Popsicle, sorry didn't have a good name for the last one," I answered. "Anyways, are you human, perchance? I didn't see many humans after I got here."

"Yes, I am a human. Sir, I wish I could register your names as you said but there is already a hero named Savitar and Galactic Inquisitor is a title reserved for the daughter of the leader of the extraterrestrial alliance. Pretentious Popsicle is available," the lady said.

"What do you think Savitar looks like?" I asked, bending down a bit towards the desk and resting my head on my right hand.

"I couldn't dare to imagine, a hero like him... I honestly couldn't dream to bring him down to my imagination," the lady said, placing both her hands on her heart.

"What if I tell you that you are looking at him right now?" I asked with a smile.

"You are kidding, right? You are... You are not..." The lady was stunned by my words. "Are you telling me that Savitar is standing in front of me? Ca-Can I please get an autograph?"

"I don't have an autograph of my own, yet... I will give you one when I do. Anyways change the last name to Hunter, I owe him that for teaching me archery," I said.

"In a minute!" The lady said as she got back to her work.

"What's your name?" I asked.

"My name is Li-" her words stopped, as did the flow of time in the room.

'Not again...' I thought as I turned around to see a man with white hair, blue eyes a well-built body, wearing a half-torn white shirt, a brown bowtie with a grey coat and tattered blue trousers.

"Hello! I am The Doctor!" The man said in an excited state. "And I am hungry apparently... Do you have anything to eat?"

Growl~

"Blimey, you are a mess..." I said, looking at him, up and down. "I have some apples in Wally's sub-space, would you like to eat that?"

"Apples? I love apples!" Doctor said.

I turned off the perception deceptor on Wally and brought him down from my shoulder, before taking out an apple from his sub-space and presenting it to the Doctor.

Crackle

He took it off my hands faster than my eyes could process and took a bite out of it like a hungry child, before spitting out everything he ate.

"What is this?" Doctor asked.

"An apple, never ate an apple before?" I asked back.

"Apples... Eugh... I hate apples. Keep them away from me," he said before throwing the rest in the dustbin.

"Anyone told you that you are a bit weird?" I asked curiously.

"Oh, they don't stop," he replied, sounding disappointed in himself. "Anyways I am getting off track again, follow me to the cafeteria, don't ask stupid questions and don't wander off."

"What happened to Holborn- I mean the other Ray Allen?" I asked, although I knew that he didn't have any reason to answer me.

"... He is at a safe place," Doctor replied, before walking away towards the doorway.

"Was he important to you?" I asked him, without moving a single step.

"... I told you to stop asking stupid questions and follow me, and I believe that you are doing none of that," Doctor said turning around.

"I am not moving a single step until I get my answers..." I said, looking him in the eyes. "Was he important to you? The way he described you, it felt as if you were important to him."

"Important? What do you mean by 'important'? In 900 years of time and space, I've never met anyone who isn't important. But it's a funny word honestly... If you put it like that, 12th was one of the most important people that I met, and you know how it feels to have see someone like that die slowly in front of your eyes? You know how it feels to watch them as they lose their sanity?" Doctor cried. The worst part of his speech was that I could feel his pain as if it were my own. His genuine pain, rage, sadness and fear... I could feel all of it through his words alone. "... I had no choice but to stop him. Hate me if you want... It doesn't make a difference."

"I am sorry... I truly am... I didn't mean to say it like that. I just wanted to make sure of something," I said. "I will be with you in a minute, I have some work to do here. Could you spare me a bit of time?"

"... Do your thing, I will be at the cafeteria if you need me," Doctor said, before vanishing from my sight. The only thing I heard before he vanished was the sound of lightning.

Crackle

As he vanished from my sight, the flow of time around me was set in motion once again.

"-sa," the lady finished her sentence.

"Lisa? I love that name! Could you please sign up our team for the Vampire Pirates mission? I am in a bit of a hurry, you see," I said, as she quickly scrolled down to get the quest. "The squad name will be 'The Probing Bloodhounds'. It sounds like a name of a detective squad, I know, I know, but I couldn't come up with a better name so, I went along with the one my friend recommended."

"It will be done in a minute, I will send you the information in your codex," Lisa said with a smile on her face.

The codex was a collective website where everyone Paragon students are signed up at. It has provides numerous advantages for the students while also keeping their identities a secret. It also has a mind wipe feature that gets activated whenever a student tries to reveal a fellow student's identity to anyone who isn't a student at Paragon.

"Oh and keep my identity a secret, since you are not a Paragon student, you are an exception to the mind wipe feature," I said, walking away from the reception area. "See you, later!"
