The chilling wail of the banshee lingered in the air, the sound still echoing through the bones of the town of Fieldview. Inside the inn, James and his companions stood frozen, the cold touch of dread clawing at their hearts. The flickering light of the lanterns barely seemed to hold back the encroaching darkness as the unnatural silence settled over the town once more.

Sasha's hand was already on the hilt of her sword, her knuckles white from the grip. "That sound… it's getting closer," she whispered, her voice laced with unease.

Yori, still standing by the window, stared out into the fields where the scarecrow had stood, unmoving, but menacing in the pale moonlight. "There's more out there. I can feel it," she muttered, her eyes narrowing.

James forced himself to move, his heart still pounding in his chest. "We need to prepare for an attack," he said, his voice firm despite the tension in the room. "Whatever that was, it wasn't just passing through."
