บท 1: Narcissus and Echo
~ Based on an actual ancient Greek tale. Narcissus, an extremely handsome man whom everyone loved. However there was no one to whom Narcissus would return his affection to. Echo, a Nympth who was destined a fate where she could only repeat the sounds and last words of others. (Where the word 'Echo' originate) She fell in love with Narcissus but he only loved himself. (Where the word 'narcissist' originates) ~
Echo's pov:
Giggling, I watched his lean body, posing in front of a puddle, his reflection shimmering in the pristine pool of water at his feet. Even his reflection was captivating, the way it captured his toned upper body, every movement intentional. My eyes were fixed upon him, his face of angles, his sharp features, sharp enough to take an eye out - lips as sharp as two dagger blades.
My hands rested on the tree's scratchy trunk as I watched him move. The muscles in his back dancing as he flexed his arms, his reflection smiling right back at him with nothing but pride.
'Are you going to keep eyeing me like i'm an olive tree or do you have something to say?' he asked, his eyes never leaving his reflection. The sound of his voice was a rich rumble soothing my ears.
Embarrassed, I began walking from my hiding spot behind the thick tree and towards him.
'γεια σας ('good day' in Greek)' I said shyly, not being able to meet his distracted gaze.
'χαίρε ('hello' in Greek)' his voice magnetic, attracting a curiosity I never knew I had while simultaneously repelling every doubt in my mind.
My cheeks flushed from his piercing gaze, I had to say something before he got annoyed and went back to admiring his mesmerising movements within the puddle.
'You're very handsome' I gushed.
He barked a laugh, even his laugh was beautiful. How could someone be this prefect?
'Don't state the obvious, foolish nympth. Zeus, you're all the same, you nymphs. Gawking at my being but having nothing of use to tell me. Run along and don't come back, sorry.'
His tone was anything but sorry.
How could such cruel words be this melodious? I tried to say anything but i could only mirror his last word to me.
Sorry.
'Sorry.' I gave a slight curtsy before fleeing the scene of embarrassment. I was stuck in my delusions, thinking a man like him would ever love me.

As my feet began to ache from the painful pounding I'd put them through, I gazed before me and noticed the height at which i stood. The mountain I stood on was so high, the valley beneathe screamed at me with opportunity.
I wanted to shriek, let out all the words I'd wanted to say to the handsome narcissist i'd seen earlier, to pour my heart out.
I opened my mouth to let the words crawl out but only one word seemed to want to plunge from the pool of curses that lie beneath my tongue.
'Sorry.' The lonely word was all that I managed.

The valley was talking back to me, carrying the very message I had just sent to it. Reminding me of the stupidity and shame I'd put myself through.

Narcissus' pov:
As she ran away, a stab of regret hit me like a slap to the face. I wanted to reach out, apologise, anything to stop her, but my body froze.
My eyes locked to my reflection, watching the guilt splash across my face. I tried looking anywhere but myself but my eyes were fixed.
Stuck.

My eyes wouldn't move but that didn't make my ears futile. The familiar, feminine voice filled my ears and i knew instantly who it was. Her.
I wished to move but I couldn't get away from myself, I wanted to be with her but I was too in awe of myself. It was me, I had done it to myself.
I'd accepted my fate, my pride would be the cause of my perish. Despite knowing I'd die alone, I smiled knowing she'd always be there.
An echo away.
