บท 6: An Unexpected Call
Angelina was one of my best friends. I knew her since middle school,however she experienced a horrible accident and ended up in a temporary coma,I still remember that time,because I often stayed with her during weekends watching movies and doing all other fun stuff that we could do keeping the fact that we were in a hospital and there was one middle aged nurse who frequently visited us,saying she was on her rounds but I think that wasn't the case,because she just keeps on nitpicking me when I was trying to do something for Angie so she wouldn't be bored of her monotonous routine.
So in that way when it was my second year in college,she was a sophomore. But still I was really excited when she told me that we were going to be together once again.
She was my junior but still her intelligence level was quite high as compared to me and I used to satisfy myself by saying that she's more intellectual just because we have an age of three years,but now I know that wasn't the reason.
Being Angie's friend was quite beneficial too because I never had a ride back home,I had always one concept of saving money as much as I can so whatever pocket money I got from dad or mom or brother or the one I earned by using my (dumb) brain. I don't know why but I always thought that money should be spend righteously.
So,Angie was the one who dropped me off most of the times.So,similarly that day our classes ended and we were in Angie's car and by the time I had made myself comfortable in the passenger seat,she said
"Um,Hani..I think we have run out of gas"
And I was like,
"Oh my God,my running out of time,you know I take a nap at 4:35"
But then I recalled that my brother is still an option so I called him and we waited like seven to eight minutes and there he was,but still I got late for my nap.
On approaching the car,I recognized the man in the driver seat wasn't my brother but it was Joseph.However,at that time I was so drained out of energy that I grabbed Angie's hand and pushed her in to the passenger seat and got myself in the backseat so that I can get some sleep during the half hour drive completely ignoring the fact that Angie didn't know who she was sitting next to.
And when we reached her house,and she was getting out of the car,Joseph approached her and told her what was expected from me.
So,that was the first time Angie and Joseph met,and after three months when I graduated from college I find out that they were in a serious relationship.
And again I was like,"When did this happened",and it wasn't the first time that I haven't noticed if things are getting strange around me or if some person is acting different. I'm always the last one to know.
And when I started my internship in an unknown company and working day and night just to get an experience slip on my resume,Angie and Joseph got married,it was two and a half years before,when I was 22 but Angie was 25 so I think I'm not getting behind in any way.
But that was the most short lived marriage I have ever witnessed.
It was a regular day for me, I was working in my cabinet when I got a call from Angie,she was crying hysterically, so I went outside to talk to her.
And she only said this and ended the call,
"Hani,I'm taking divorce and I can never be you so it mean I'm not good enough for Joseph,you are like a sister to me but sorry we can't see each other anymore,sorry"
And in this way the call ended and so did our friendship.
But if I remember that was the day when something started which lead to my current situation like Joseph got divorced for the second time,and started following me everywhere like a puppy.
And still I don't know why Angie said that she couldn't be me and why was she so sorry.
