บท 2: Marking

The classroom crackled with the intellectual fervour of the lesson on atomic physics. Mr Johnson, an enthusiastic physics teacher, paced back and forth at the front, his voice animated as he explained the intricacies of subatomic particles.

Peter was listening to every word. He had studied in his mind because this is the only thing that will help Uncle Ben and Aunt May. He needed to grab a Scholarship.

With a smug grin, Flash crumpled a small piece of paper, readying himself for a mischievous act directed at Peter. " Loser " He murmured.

He threw at Peter.

Peter grabbed the fallen paper and frowned. He did not express anything. He keeps it to himself.

After the class, Peter grabbed his backpack and planned to leave. It was lunchtime. And he had the perfect place to eat.

Flash bumped his shoulder. Peter's weak body threw to the side. Flash and his friends laughed.

Peter sighed. He picked up the fallen books.

" Peter Parker. Are you here? " Mr Johnson entered the classroom.

Peter looked up. " Yeah. Sir. Do you need something for me? "

" Oh yeah. I have a ticket for you. A ticket for a visit to the Atomic Radiation show at the science museum. "

Peter's eyes widen in surprise. " Really. I heard about the show but I can't believe you are giving me the ticket. "

Mr Johnson laughed holding his glasses from falling. " Slow down. Parker. You deserve it. You are the brightest student I ever met. "

Peter walked outside the classroom with a ticket in his hand. ' Look like I got to visit today. '

He made his way to the rooftop and opened the launch Aunt May made for him. It was a sandwich.

He silently eats on the rooftop feeling the wind pick up his loneliness. ' I need to get a job. ' He thought. But finding a job that will match his time is difficult and the school probably only like their first student working.

After finishing the meal, Peter stayed on the rooftop. Flash and his friends were annoying. Always picked on the weak like him.

As the wind rushed past his face, a sense of responsibility settled within Peter's heart. But he won't do a thing because he lacks the strength.

Uncle Ben would hate him for that but what can he do? Fight back? He tried once and it was not worth it. And he was left embarrassed in front of the girl he liked.

As the final bell rang, signalling the end of another day of rigorous academics, the school doors swung open, unleashing a wave of students into the crisp afternoon air.

The bustling hallways transformed into a lively tapestry of youthful energy, laughter, and excited chatter.

Among the sea of students, Peter emerged, his backpack slung over one shoulder, a hint of exhaustion mingling with his sense of accomplishment.

Peter took pride in his academic achievements, but he also looked forward to the freedom and possibilities that awaited him beyond the classroom walls.

' Now Atomic Radiation. ' He thought.

The sunlight danced through the swaying branches of nearby trees, casting dappled patterns on the ground as students spilt out onto the school grounds.

The students in his classroom were talking in groups. Peter saw some glaze in his direction. As he was about to walk past them, a girl with a ponytail came forward and asked.

" Hey, Peter do you want to join us? "

Peter shook his head. " Sorry. Kayla, I got something else. " Although he was tempted at first he decided to decline the offer. It will be odd since he didn't know anyone other than their name.

Flash came forward and smirked. " See. I told you this guy is a total nerd. Come. " He put his hand on Kayla's shoulder and left.

Peter sighed and made his way to the museum.

With each step, Peter became aware of the vibrant tapestry that surrounded him. The school grounds echoed with the sounds of laughter, conversations, and the occasional burst of music from a passing car.

He saw Human Torch flying in the sky. Beside him, students were cheering.

The grand doors of the museum swung open, revealing a world of scientific wonders within. Visitors bustled through the entrance, their anticipation palpable as they eagerly made their way to the exhibit hall.

Among the crowd, Peter, with a glimmer of excitement in his eyes, stepped into the realm of scientific discovery.

He looked around but he didn't go away from the tour guide. The guide explained everything she understand to them.

Soon they stopped the experiment.

Two light balls larger than normal basketball, and three scientists were tapping their screens.

The guide smiled and said. " This is where our brilliant scientists study the effect of radiation transfer. " She continued.

Unknown to all of them, a small spider was hanging between the two light balls.

One of the scientists started. And the radiation transferred from one to another. The small spider caught and dropped to the floor.

But the wind carried the small spider and it landed on Peter's hand. Due to the near-death situation, the spider bites nearby flesh trying to transfer radiation.

" Ouch. " Peter yelled.

" Sorry about that. " He immediately apologized and looked down at his hand. It was a dead and dry spider.

He picked it up and looked back at the bite mark it make. It was a small hole. He threw the spider on the floor and followed the guide.

After ten minutes, the tour was finished.

At first, he barely registered the tiny puncture, dismissing it as a mere inconvenience. But within moments, an intense, searing pain radiated from the bite wound, shooting through his veins like fiery tendrils.

' What is happening? ' He thought sweating furiously. He held his hand tight and looked again at the bite mark.

It was not the same as before. His skin was crumbling and forming. He was afraid of what might change happening inside him.

Peter ran outside. He passed the cars. Entering the dark alleyway, he sat beside the trash bin.

Peter's vision blurred, and his body convulsed with sudden weakness. A wave of dizziness washed over him, threatening to pull him into an abyss of unconsciousness.
