บท 14: The Great Beast
Five of them run to their resting spot and it didn't take them much time to arrive at their resting spot. Just as they could imagine themself sleeping on grass. From distance they can saw jumping out of nowhere was a wolf-like monster with glowing reddish dark eyes and a horn on its head. With a size that was three heads taller than them, the wolf-like monster growled as it looked around at each of them, seeming to starve as it looked toward them.
"Wha-wha-what kind of wolf is that?" asked Tanimoto stuttering in shocked looking at the wolf-like monster in front of him.
Even though they doesn't get close too much at the wolf-like monster but they can still feel it murderous aura toward them.
"Quick! Everyone wake up!" Uchimura shouted in panic as he tried to waking his classmate out of their sleep.
Damn it, it's a monster, I don't know if we would confront them in here, this is bad... Takeuchi thought, cursing his bad luck.
With a reflex and shock, he put some distance between himself and the wolf-like monster. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw that some of his classmate had woken up because of Uchimura's shouting.
It was then that the big wolf-like monster let out its howling loudly while they were busy trying to understand what was happening.
The howling seems to have some kind of effect as Takeuchi's heart went cold and filled with fear, but not only that, when he tries to move his arms to cover his ear, he realizes that he can't move his body.
"Damn it!" He curses, clenching his teeth hard hoping he can move his body.
The howling of the wolf-like creature was so loud that he felt as if it was the sound of an explosion when he heard it, as the wolf-like monster stopped howling, then his body fell to the ground, shaking with fear like a newborn baby.
It seems that the howling was something special, my body can't move when I hear it... Takeuchi thought.
With the ringing in his ears, he stands up. Looking around, it seems he wasn't alone, which was getting affected by the howling it was also affecting his classmates.
Just as he was about to concentrate on the monster again, he felt something coming in their direction.
"My body can't move there for a second," Uchimura said as he stood up. "That monster is dangerous."
"Yeah, that howling was special, it had some kind of effect on us," Takeuchi said as he looked at the wolf-like monster.
"This is bad, this is bad," Tanimoto reprised, appearing to panic.
"Let's go, gather with the others," Takeuchi told the others as he looked back, his classmates were rushing to gather as they were cautiously wary towards the wolf-like monster direction. "I feel something bad is going to happen,"
"Don't be so bossy," answered Uchimura, somewhat annoyed by it.
Just as they made it to the gathering, Nagata asked. "What should we do?"
"Do what we planned before," Yoshihama declared firmly. "Everybody form up! People who can't fight go to the back, everyone gets ready!"
"Don't worry everyone, yup, it was just a big wolf, I'm sure we'll make it," Nagata said, consoling herself and the others.
But after she finished her sentence, another wolf-like monster jumped out of the darkness of the forest.
Just when Takeuchi thought that was bad, another one came from another side, and now three big wolf-like monsters were growling at them and watching their every move.
Shrieking in fright, Tanimoto told everyone around him. "Let's just run, they seem to be going to rip us apart!"
But before they can do anything, the three big wolves ran toward them, trying to attack and drag one of them. But with a slashing sound, Uchimura swung his spear, making their attack getting halt, instead of continuing the attack they backed off and encircled them.
With their spears ready, they watch every move of the wolf monsters, ready to attack because they didn't know what the wolf-like monsters would do next.
Holding one of the spears while looking at the big wolf-like monster, Nagata asked. "What are they doing?"
"They have us surrounded," Uchimura exclaimed. "We had no choice but to fight now."
"I know what they are doing, it was a typical wolf strategy while the wolves go hunting their prey," explained a girl with long pony hair and bang covering her eyes with a flat tone.
Yokota Rino. She wore a girl's uniform and had long hair and a pony that covered her eyes. With tanned skin like she just bask under the hot sun.
She was a rather quiet person. She always had good grades on exams, and she's not a typically shy person. From what I heard, she was one of the members of the student council.
"Prey!? Do you mean we were their prey?" Tanimoto cried in panic.
"What should we do?" Nagata asked, threatened by the wolf-like monster.
"Let's just wait and see, Oyakawa, Tanigawa, Nakahara, go to the back, protect us from there, let's us make circle everyone, make sure don't let any gap that can they use," Yoshihama shouted an order.
"Tsk, if only I had my sword," the young man said annoyed as he went back with Oyakawa and Nakahara.
Tanigawa Sanraku. He wears a uniform like the others, with brown eyes and a ponytail, he seems to want to dress like a samurai. He joined the Kendo Club.
From what Takeuchi heard, he had inherited the sword art from his family. And he had been practicing Kendo since middle school and was once a champion.
But recently, Takeuchi heard that his performance had been dropping since high school, maybe because he was a bit overacting. There almost anyone wasn't recognize him as he was swinging his bamboo sword everywhere he goes.
"You have a spear, Tanigawa, I'm sure it was more powerful than a sword," Nakahara said as they walked toward the back of the formation.
"Don't belittle the sword, Nakahara, but you're right, swordmasters like me have to master all kinds of weapons," Tanigawa nodded wisely.
"Hahaha, let's keep the spirit up," Oyakawa laughed.
