The "bad guys" here?
The chief froze for a moment, looking confused, and asked, "What do you mean?"
"Those bad guys who killed so many uncles and aunties," Zhouzhou replied.
What?!
The chief was even more bewildered now. He looked up at Qin Xu, seeking clarification.
Qin Xu took a deep breath, slowly exhaling three words: "The former chief."
Hearing this, the chief's pupils shrank.
He had originally been the deputy chief, and he had worked with the former chief for many years. After the incident, he was promoted to chief. Even so, he felt no sense of excitement. Regardless of which position he held—whether it was the chief or the deputy—the goal remained the same: solving cases.
Moreover, the former chief had been a close friend of his. He still remembered vividly the tragedy of the former chief and his team being wiped out. It was a wound in his heart that had never healed.
But now, what were they trying to say? Why were they talking about "bad guys" in their precinct?
