QUENTIN FELT AS THOUGH his insides were pulled tight and straining. Keeping his eyes on the road was an almost constant struggle. His shoulders ached from the tension of gripping the wheel as tightly as he held it.

Being around Candi was pleasure and torture.

He'd never met anyone who was so easy to be around. Most people wore on him to some point. But not her. It only served to remind him of all the good times. How well they connected and worked together after he'd stopped being an ass. And it rubbed salt on his wounds. His actions had led to her exiting his life. All because he'd been afraid of his own feelings. If he'd done things differently, maybe they'd never have gotten to this point?
