Ilyan's hold on the coffee mug tightened. "What did you say?" Did she really say what he had heard? Gripping her arm, he turned her toward him. "Irene? What did you say?" His darkened orbs stared at her downcast eyes that hid a plethora of emotions in them. Despite them not lifting at him and giving away precisely what they were concealing, he could see it all.

"I said what you heard, Ilyan. Don't make me repeat it." She turned her face away, swiftly getting his hand down her arm. "It's okay. It's not a big deal." Burying in her hesitance, she rose to her feet, moving away from him before he could catch everything that she did not want him to see.
