บท 59: Finding her

"Commander! I-i have an urgent news." Ahriman barged into the office. He looked paler than he usually looked.

Jafar looked at Ahriman concerned about the intruder.

They looked at him losing focus on the pile of papers and scrolls. He stood at the door panting with one hand in the air.

"At this hour? Make it quick." Erebus grumbled.

"T-the Mistress...Y-your wife...she!" He panted ascl sweat covered him and fear clouded his brain.

"What about her?" He kept the paper on the old wooden table.

"Gone missing..." He finally blurted out.

"What?" Jafar's response was quicker.

He looked back at Erebus as he sat wide eyed balling his hand into a fist.

"Explain this to me Ahriman." He said in a voice that hinted malicious dark aura around him.

"Where were you?"

Ahriman could feel his fury underneath the calm face.

"This isn't the best time to interrogate master." Jafar interrupted hurriedly.

"The lady is our priority. Who knows if she's riddled with that intruder? Ahriman lead us to where you were with the lady last."

He put the papers down and followed them out of the room.

-"Luciana...you never cease to grab my attention." He gritted and looked at the chambers.

"Where's Nemesis?" He asked Ahriman who escorted them to the second floor.

"The little Lord was fast asleep my Lord. The lady insisted that she wanted to visit the Library. So I had no choice but to obey her command. A-and then she suddenly asked me to fetch her medicine for her..." He stopped as Erebus glared at him.

-"That look clearly means that how dare you disobey my orders? He'll kill me this time.

"Jafar, ask around for clues. Look into the staff if anyone frequented this floor. And you... Summon all squadrons into the main hall. You and Ciaran will be in charge of investigation in the territory." He dispatched them when he felt a faint existence behind him. He felt something under his black leather and fur boots. He took a step back and found a gleaming metal.

-"This is from Leo's collar." He noticed faint flow of wind beneath his hand on the ground.

"Illusion traps." He realized.

"Don't tell me..."

He got up and looked around for the way to open it.

He hastened out of the building after fruitless attempts to search for the opening.

-"Where do I even start?" He was aggravated by thinking about the annoying traps that were long laid a thousand years ago during the fortress construction to ward off supposed consequences.

The sun shone brightly in the sky making it more blue than usual. The season was changing.

He felt the wisps circling around him as if trying to get his attention. The small fire like existence that also lightened up the nights stopped circling him and stationed themselves in a row.

-"They're leading me somewhere." He figured and followed them. The fortress was in turmoil. The soldiers left in groups of six spreading out into the territory in search of their mistress.

"I never imagined that such a timid and powerless figure like her would cause greater uproar in my domain. Who knows what she'll do next." He groaned.

As he followed them they stood near two collosal statues that held the gates. He knew that she seldom frequented this place as he opened the huge gates with his void spell. The steam arose from the pond and hit his face. It felt warm against his cheeks. His vision became a little hazy for a few heartbeats. The trees had started to turn green, reds and even yellows. Small flowers bloomed alongside the pond. He only visited the place when he got severely injured to heal himself in warm bath. The wisps circled around him again to get his attention and led him to the huge stone wall engraved with patterns. He looked around and up. It was the wall of the fortress. The extension walls only provided as a defense barrier from outside world. The blue wisps made a paater forming a circle on the wall. He placed his hand in the centre of the formed circle when they slowly changed color. The patterns started to glow on the wall. He could feel a little amount of his powers being sucked from him. With a rough rumble the stone wall moved steadily and led him into a dark passage.

-"It... opened to the basement?" He never knew the hidden passage in this place. He turned around and made sure no one followed him.

It was pitch black inside. There were no torches. It took little time for him to adjust himself to darkness. He looked around to see if the passage lead somewhere inside the fortress. After walking for ten minutes he came to the end of the passageway. It opened to several other ways. He was pathetic when it came to things like directions. He only had the tendency to find ways based on his senses. He looked at the four tunnels that segregated the passageway. He judged them by their heights and width. The alternative tunnels were of the size that allowed only humans to go through. One was taller and broader. It seemed more of a path used to transport goods where wagons or animals could pass through. The fourth was queer in it own way. He sensed different smells relying on his nose this time where his instincts were dulled. The broader one smelt of animal stink and mold. One of the two familiar ones stank of rotten meat and blood. The others only had moldy smell with faint wind blowing through them. Fearing for the worse he chose the one that reeked death. He entered the tunnel and realized that he was familiar with the place. It led him to the underground dungeon where he detained the worst of the worst criminals in the cold damp place that the sunlight couldn't reach. He could hear the moans of many, cries of the guilty and curses as he walked past them.

-"She couldn't have come down here. Knowing her she would faint from the sight of blood. Did I choose the wrong path?" He fretted for a moment when a familiar scent drew his attention.

"It's her's."
