They found Solution and Answer, two spirits of the tower then the path that would lead to the end of the quest was meant to be around. However, with the monster outside, it was unlikely that they would come out. Thinking about the first sentence of the riddle, Solution was the lead to the tower where all Answers could be found. In his case, the Solution he sought was a book that held the quote from a bestseller author from Earth.

'Every problem has a solution, although it may not be the outcome that was originally hoped for or expected.'

Solution expected that Stephan would lose the bet and he would be a librarian by now. The outcome wasn't originally hoped for or expected. The quote carved on the tree was a signal to make him understand that whatever Solution expected wouldn't happen. He didn't become a librarian and whatever she still expected wouldn't play as she wanted.
