chapter 10| Hibi
"How do you lose a person?"
"Want to retrace my steps with me? I can show you?"
"I thought you said he was quite tall, where would he have gone?"
I ran my hand through my hair, tugging at the roots softly "I don't know... but look on the bright side, he's out of our hands!" No one else seemed to share my joy.
"He could be dangerous Hibi" Astrid pinched the top of her nose and shook her head in disappointment "This is a peaceful town we don't need people fresh out of Hearts here" I leaned back on the couch, not really seeing their point.
"Well if that's the case I can go back out there and track him down. He's as pale as fresh snow so he'll not be hard to find" Astrid groaned and put her hands up in the air before storming off to the kitchen.
Rico glanced at me before taking a seat next to me "Describe what he looked like in more detail, I'll help you look for him" I gave him a smile of appreciation "Don't give me that look, mistakes happen, I get that. Let's just track down the motherfucker so we can get this over and done with".
"Okay, so he's tall-
"Heard you the first time honey" I glared at him to let me finish.
"Pale blue eyes, white short hair, he's not on the muscular side-more of a lean stature, sharp jawline, pink lips, high cheekbon-
"I asked you to describe what he looked like, not lust over him in front of me" He snorted "Don't worry this is enough. So I guess we're looking for a white skinny tree" I blew air out of my nose in amusement at his description.
"He also has these freakishly pointy ears-
"That him?"
I whipped around to see Irina walking up the pathway with Caspian hot on her heels. A breath of relief escaped me as I jumped to my feet and rushed to the door, flinging it open before Irina got the chance to put the key in. As soon as she saw me she pounced into my arms and I threw my hands around her.
Caspian and I locked eyes and I shot him a smug smirk. That's right bitch she led you right back to me.
"HIBI!" She screeched in my ear making me wince. "I was expecting you like a week from now!" I put her back on the ground and she grinned up at me. Short little thing. "Did you get it?" She asked softly, hope dancing in her eyes.
"Of course" I slid her the neatly folded letter. She grasped it delicately with love in her eyes.
"Thank you" She breathed through her lips "OMYGOSH THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! How was it?" She squealed.
"Smooth as usual, it was an in and out kinda thing...no altercations except-
"Oh and look who I found at the jeweller shop, Hibi meet-
"Caspian" A confused look washed over her face.
"You're...familiar?" I reached up and grabbed one of his cheeks and pinched it.
"He was supposed to be my new Hearts refugee that I was bringing in, we lost each other once we got here" He scratched behind his neck sheepishly "And for once that wasn't my fault".
"Yeah about that-
"You caused me a lot of stress blondie, and you almost made Astrid break a sweat" Rico called out from inside the house. Irina pushed past me and I let her as I still had an earful to give to Caspian.
I can't believe I'm about to give to lecture.
"I gave you a whole speech about how this place was new to you and you don't know the people and you went to get yourself lost!" I narrowed my eyes at him.
"I swear I was right behind you...until I wasn't".
"What if you got killed! I don't need blood on my hands Caspian, I have enough" I pointed at him "I don't need your life on my conscious".
"I was just planning to take a look around, you haven't shown me anything since we entered Spades!"
"THAT'S NOT MY- you know what you're not even my problem anymore, c'mon in I'll introduce you to everyone else and then I can finally get you off my hands" There was a strange look in his eye when I said that but it was quickly masked with his normal cocky look.
We walked in together to see Leroi and Irina sitting on the couches whilst Astrid leaned on the kitchen door drinking a glass of...water. "So who's the new guy?"
"Guys meet Caspian" I turned to Cas "Cas meet, Astrid and Rico" Astrid gave him a short wave.
"So this's the guy we were all about to send a search party after" Rico snorted "'Dangerous' Please! Man doesn't look like he could throw a proper punch" I raised an eyebrow.
"You look two feet three tops" I wanted to laugh but Irina beat me to it. She let out a strong cackle that almost shook the furniture, I don't know if it was Caspians insult or Irina's laughter but even Astrid cracked a smile.
Rico didn't find it as amusing as he proceeded to get to his feet, only proving Caspian's point as Rico barely reached his waistband. Irina put her hand flat on his chest to stop him from advancing to start a fight, Cas, on the other hand, didn't look very scared.
"What's his story?" Astrid piped up.
"Thief, he stole something of the prince's, caught him escaping the palace".
"He escaped Red? That's impressive" She admitted.
"I could do it with my eyes closed" Muttered Rico pettily. Irina on the other hand looked like she'd seen a ghost. It was like a lightbulb of realization went off in her head, her face had hardened as she looked at nothing in particular.
"Caspian can you meet me in the kitchen?" She didn't wait for his answer as she already started storming towards it. Cas shot me a questioning look, seemingly scared for his life.
"Don't sweat it snowflake, Rina wouldn't touch the wings of a butterfly" Rico commented as he sat back in his loveseat. I didn't seem very convinced but I still pushed him to go follow her.
"She won't hurt you," I think "It might be important".
